I have had a half a dozen over the years including 3 I had built and a few friends have had them build rifles for them.

I think they are good rifles. Usually light for caliber but a pleasure to carry and shoot. Well balanced and accurate as any other Belgium rifle.

Some of the best engraving in the world from some of the best of the Belgium Engravers.

All the fitting was hand filed with smoke and some really fine in letting for the stocks.

For years Marcel was the head instructor at the gunsmithing school in Liege and most of the very best of his students worked for them for a time.

One thing most people don't realize is they built more shotguns than rifles.

Dave,

I have one. It has proven very accurate.

To see some photos go to this location: http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=74721&an=0&page=0#Post74721

If you want to see some other photos post so here and I'll post them. They were taken for insurance purposes and the camera wasn't too good but they shot the rifle well enough.

Greener,

I will need to post photos from my home computer and will likely not be able to do so until Wendsday evening.

My rifle is a sidelock ejector in the odd for a double rifle 458wm and has the normal two Purdey underbolts plus an H&H style third fastener.

Marcel Thys has retired and is no longer making guns. Too bad! His rifles are seen for sale from time to time and I'll guess that the price range runs from the mid $20k's for a box lock to perhaps the mid $40k's for a very large bore sidelock. These would be selling prices and not asking prices. I've seen and handled an exquisite 577NE sidelock that had an asking price of $55k.

A lot of gun for the money, and not so expensive that you feel guilty scraping through the bush.

I've a possibility to send you a new Anson with side plate by Marcel Thys&sons calibre 20
It's not yet finish totally. You can choice your engrave.
It cost 7000€ without engraving.
It have all papers certificated. It's a really good price for this gun.

Beautiful rifle. Love the engraving and the extended top strap. What all have you changed? Did you remove the cheek piece? You wouldn't happen to have a close up of the rear sight would you?

Thanks for posting.

Thanks all,

Bulldog,

I don't have a close up but the rear sight is a wide V with an engraved line in the center. The line was just simply engraved, but as we speak the rifle is at G&H for a stock refinish and to have the line "inlaid" in platinum. The rear sight also has two filed in flip up blades. They are umarked for yardage but I would guess 100yds and 150. Haven't really tried them, except the first one which I use for my 350gr load @ 50yds. The standing blade is thick at the base and tapers toward the top and the sides and corners are rounded to prevent catching on anything.

I removed the cheek piece and also removed some wood from the right side of the stock to effectively create cast on for this lefty.

If you go to the link I provided in my earlier post you can see the rifle with the cheek piece removed and a temporary finish on the wood exposed in the removal of the cheek piece and wood from the right side. Not a bad finish, but not up to G&H capabilities. Also, I never loved the original finish, it got a bit sticky in very high temps, like in the Zambezi Valley in Oct.

Well,
When my brother went to the ecole a liege,
Marcel Thys was the master gunmaker there. He (like all the other masters, worked for a nominal fee; they just wanted to give on the legacy.
Marcel Thys made great weapons, when he had the time, and some that where not to his standards.
The best he made were truly THE very best.
Livinus
