WESTLEY RICHARDS DROPLOCKS - 375 Flgd. - 8x75 - 7x75 Vom Hofe Super Express. Consecutive serial numbers. Just a tad to pricey for me but really nice looking set.

Saw those when first listed, not bad at all.

I would prefer different calibres but
in Europe that would be perfect.

A "project" like this takes TEAMWORK!!!

I'll take the 375 and put $39K in the pot! Now "WE" only need two more "teammates" to kickin a $100K each and this deal is done!! First come first served on the remaining caliber selection.

Good idea but I'm afraid I'll have to bow out
of this one as I already have a droplock.

But I think the concept is good and I reckon
if a group went to them with some $$$ in the
hand, they'd have to seriously consider it.

Hard to find a buyer for those 3 - calibres
are so personal !!!

500Nitro,

You are right about the caliber selection being such a personal thing. I understand/approve of the 375 Flg but do NOT understand/appreciate the other two. Just a guess, but if the calibers were 450/400, 375 Flg. or 9.3x74, and 7x57 it would have sold by now. Lots of 450/400, 375, & 9.3 fans out there......... oh well, they are pretty to look at!!

That's why I have a suspicion it came from Europe.

7 x 57R OR
7 x 65R

9.3 X 74R would tend to duplicate the other
375 Flanged Magnum barrels.

Would have to look at what cals I would have liked
but those 3 are too close together for my liking.

I have 2 gouble rifles in 375 Flanged Magnum
- great cartridge.

Being a Westley Richards collector, if I were a rich man, instead of just a poor man with rich tastes, I'd buy that set in a heart beat! WAIT! Let me check the Lotto numbers, I might be a rich man!

Dugaboy

Even if I were a rich man, and a WR Collector (which I am),
I still wouldn't buy it.

Calibres - very personal decision.

I agree with 500 Nitro, calibers (as we say on our side of the Big Ocean) is a very personal choice, but one that can often work in your favor. I acquired a pristine 1908 WR droplock (or 'detachable locks' as the seller corrected me) with the removable bottom plate (later guns used the hinged plate, and some that went back to WR had the bottom plate altered in that fashion) for a nice price since it was in the "less-than-desirable" or "odd ball" 476 WR rather than a more fashionable 470NE etc.

So what? 476 WR is readily available factory loaded and handloads easily. My 'it looks like new' came with 300 rounds of fresh WR factory loads and cost me less with all of that and case than I would have paid for one of the more 'popular' calibers. And, this 'odd ball' caliber will do everything that the 470 or other calibers of this type will do.

Same experience with a custom engraved Merkel 160 the company had done for a Europeon show, a sidelock SxS double rarely seen here in the US, but in what most Americans consider an 'odd ball' caliber (7.65R) Merkel offered it to their US distributor and it sat there for a few years, NIB because of the caliber. Several guns of the same ilk sold fairly fast since they were in 30-06, our 'universal' medium bore. Since the 7.65R is a superb cartridge, and when it was offered to me at a fire sale price, I grabbed.

Final comment is that I agree with 500 Nitro as to this particular set, I wouldn't buy it if I had Bill Gate's income. Not my calibers of choice. Dave

dnovo

7 x 65R is a top calibre - very underated outside of
Europe.

Sounds like a nice pick up.

(Edited by 500Nitro to be the correct calibre
thanks dnovo)

7X65 actually but I assume that was a typo. From what I have read, the ballistic twin of the Remington 280 over here, one well respected cartridge in the US. The Merkel shots it marvelously and their loss is clearly my gain. Dave

I do think I would have spread the calibers out just a bit more. The 7x75 Vom Hofe Super Express is said to be more like the 7 mag. I think the midle caliber would be 9.3 and a 470 for the big bore.

Bill

Too much of a spread.

Shouldn't build a small cal on a 470 action as it just doesn't balance well.

375 is about the biggest if you want smaller cals.

This is three rifle set, not three barrels. Personally, for that kind of money, I'd go 300 H&H Flanged, .375 H&H Flanged and 500/465 NE.
