WHY ???

The Ruger 375 and 375H&H are both ballistically superior to the 9.3x62. I understand that there are lots of "9.3 groupies" out there, but IMO the real place for this caliber to shine is in a rimmed case and a double rifle.

As a factory chamber? Don't hold your breath, not with Ruger having put there name on the 375.

It is in a rimmed case, albeit a streeeeched version, called the 9,3X74R.

The short version is for bolt rifles, like the Ruger Hawkeye African...

Yeah, I agree. IMHO the .375 Ruger is sort of the new American version of the 9.3x62 Mauser and 9.3x64 Brenneke cartridges. Meaning, a fairly powerful medium bore cartridge that basically uses a case about 2.5 inches in length (meaning it will fit a .30-06 length standard action). Ruger will want to concentrate on selling a cartridge that bears it's name.

And then there is the typical lack of knowledge by a lot of American shooters concerning metric cartridges. When I take my 9.3x62 to a public range and someone asks about the cartridge, when I tell them it's a 9.3x62 I invariably get the "A nine point three WHAT??" reply usually accompanied by a blank stare. I then tell them it's very similar to the .35 Whelen but that it uses a .366 caliber bullet. Guess what? Most don't know what a .35 Whelen is either.

Bob,

Well stated - I couldn't agree more. I currently attend a gunsmithing school and I'd estimate that a majority of the students would not recognize any of the 9.3mm family. Each student is required to submit a final project (or projects - depends on remaining time available and $$$) and I was dead-set on building a rifle in 7x66 Vom Hofe (Super Express) or 8x68S. I finally settled on the 8x68S and it's amazing - every time I discuss the project with other students I get basically the same reaction you do. FWIW, the first rifle I built here is chambered in 35 Whelen and, like you, I've met a number of people who don't know of it. These days, it seems like if it isn't a WSM, WSSM, RUM, or a big, belted magnum, people just aren't interested.

Bloody shame people today rely on the 'net' for their information - too lazy to do some reading.
; No-one today has rhad the benefit of all the literature and ctg. experimentors we've been blessed with from 1920 to this date. Most people today don't even know who P.O. Ackley, Elmer Keith or Jack OConner was, let alone Harvey Donaldson and Ned Roberts and Harry Pope and Peter Mauser. Bloody Shame that people today are so poorly educated in firearms. Shades of fpe. Good grief Charlie Brown.

So far but please understand that you have to compare the 9,3x64 Brenneke to the 375H&H!
If you do that you see, that Brenneke designed a cartridge nearly 100 Years ago close to the .375 ruger!

I like to say it is like a .36 Whelen! That should leave them scratching their heads.

CZ is selling the hell out of 9,3X62 550 Americans, plastic followers and all. Ruger could kick their ass with a 9,3X62 Hawkeye, IMO.

Rick Jamison and Scovil did a lot to popularize the 9.3x62 ctg. and case (as a .375 in Scovil's area).
: It's about time this case became popular and people woke up to the delights of the blown '06 case. When I picked up that old Mauser in 9.3x62, I merely took my previous .375/06IMp brass, necked it down to take the .366" bullet, creating a false shoulder and fireformed them. Shoulder diameter is identical & the '06 case makes passable 9.3x62's. Excellent round with 270 Speers at 2,600fps. or 286gr. at just over 2,500fps.

True enough.

I'm new here {but not new to shooting irons} and a great site it is! Bravo to the Management!!

I too am another wondering why Ruger didn't just do what it should have and released a lighter, "tailored-to" rifle for the 9,3x62. Alas, typical American marketing. Wasn't the plethora of meaningless, new, semi-proprietary cartridges part of the reason for the demise of Winchester?

CZ is proving the point that the American public CAN swallow a 9,3 round, and like the taste of it!

I do not own a x62, just two x57's, but I would have applauded Ruger if they had spun out a dandy x62. Might have bought one, too. As it is, I have a 4-shot SAKO Finnbear that doesn't need a .375 cousin.

I guess the 91,207 emails I sent them from different addresses, asking for this finally got their attention.

This round was just a natural for the Hawkeye, and Ruger sells abroad, not just here in N. America. I bet Frankonia has them on order.

No "ex" about it.

In reality, I did send emails every week or so to Ruger, touting this. I'm not sure I can take all the credit, however.

I have to admit, I'm tempted to order one of these 9.3 Rugers.

Could not agree more. I have three: RF Sedgley, Merkel SR 1 and a really strange "made for export only" Savage 116.
(Savage also made in 8x57)

I know nothing of overseas hunting laws but was told a HV gun was required in some countries. Suppose since most game is color blind it could make sense.

Also interesting are the 20" barrel, pseudo Express sights and that all the metal surfaces are Nitrided. I made the metal, scope and mounts orange as well with a dip kit. She is very accurate and will hold 1 moa with Speers, Barnes and Noslers. Bought a custom mold for it off castboolits.com that is cut to use 375 gas checks. Looking forward to try it out with it this summer.

Put on your sunglasses !

One you will never lean against a tree and lose !

A surefire conversation starter at the range.

Claimed that only 8 escaped export,4 in each caliber.

Finn Aagaard as we all know used quite extensively a Winchester pre 64 Model 70 .375 H&H in Afrika ;indeed it was his most favorite weapon. What many do not know however that Joe Cheffings ,Finns longtime friend and guide partner used an FN Mauser in 9.3x62. While gaining their guiding license's together and on safaris for years Finn got to witness the side by side performance literally hundreds of times of both rifles and is on record saying "that there is no difference in the killing power of a 375 H&H and a 9.3x62" If anything Finn went on to say ;is that the 9.3 might have been even slightly better. The 9.3x62 is indeed one of those rare calibers that everthing seems to be perfectly put together ;and its track record proves it.

How about 9,3x64 ? The difference between it and .375 H&H is very marginal.

Here in Finland 9,3x62 is very popular but mostly in mid range shooting 100-150 meters(~109-165 yards) In longer distances those heavy bullet loads seems to be a tad on slower side when shooting, for example, running moose.

RWS makes factory loads for both caliber.
