Gentlemen,

Glad you liked the video. All I did was copy the link and post it here. I knew that if there was one place where this would have most been appreciated it was here.

Good hunting!

I am very pleased you posted this, now the beginners can see what goes into an actual "hand" made gun. A pure joy to watch!

Many companies today rely mostly on very expensive cnc machines and robotics to do the 99% of the labor. This is why I gave up on Fabbri a few years back, I walked the shop in detail and it looked like a NASA space station, my Fabbri O/U's guns went bye bye the next week when I returned home. Now I hear H&K bought Boss & Co. in London, what's next?

Follow-up:

I received the DVD the other day and finished watching it yesterday. It was very good and well worth the purchase. They go through all the steps, in a fair amount of detail, from fitting through finish. Can't remember the run time, as I watched it over two sessions, but it's probably between 60 and 90 minutes. There is a section of extra sceens as well.

They cover both bore guns as well as rifles. The quality of the videography is very good. The detail shown in some of the shots is beautiful.

The one critisism is that the audio could be better. I think that they were using a boom mike and didn't have the speakers miked. In those sections where the speaker is a bit of a low-talker and there is a bunch of background noise, it was hard to make out.

That said it was well worth the £ 24.95 and gives a lot of insite to the building of these guns and the continuity of tradition that is part H&H

FWIW,

-Steve

Steve

I also received my copy of the H&H video… sent very promptly by UK First Class Mail.

While it does contain a wealth of fascinating information, I thought it was in desperate need of re-editing.

Initial title music really jarred… I would have thought classical music more appropriate.
Could have done with a good old British Establishment articulate 'talking head' to introduce the subject and better link the different segments.
Given H&H heritage, surely some Lord who can still afford to buy an H&H new could have been approached? What guns do the Royal family actually use now for example?

What about a quick virtual tour around the H&H Showrooms in London, Paris and New York?
No H&H website address for more information, fonts and overall flow/layout a bit amateurish.

The old presentation adage of 'Tell them what you are going to say, say it, then tell them what you have said' would apply well here...

Topics jumped between shotgun and double rifle manufacture, which was a little confusing at times.

The craftsmen, by their very nature, are very precise and somewhat introverted in the way they come across to camera.
The topics were really interesting, but the speaker's delivery made it a bit tedious at times.
This was not helped by the patchy sound quality where background machinery noise drowned out some of the more quietly spoken craftsmen.

H&H's Managing Director seemed to be reading off bits of cardboard below the camera instead of an Autocue or memory aids placed at eye level… his lack of eye contact with the camera and tendency to mumble made him seem a little 'shifty'!

It was also interesting what was NOT included… ie no similarly detailed info on barrel blacking or action colour case hardening, maybe because these items were 'sent out' to specialist shops?

The section on determining proper gun fit was very interesting indeed, yet was relegated to the Extras section.
I found myself wanting more info on some areas… and found there was a bit too much in others.
If the DVD was lengthened but re-edited into logical sequences, the viewer could then just jump to the right point on the top menu and use the DVD as a reference source.

Overall, an interesting DVD, worth the money, packed with great info on DR's and shotguns but spoiled by production values that do not match the high standards of H&H.

7/10

Cheers

TM

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but does anyone know where I can find this video on the internet. Had someone ask me about it and want to show them it.

Original link doesn't work.

No. However, you can buy the full DVD from H&H in New York.

Tilleyman

I watch the DVD again over Xmas and would have to agree with you, the info is good but it really does need better editing.

I just wish they had kept it in a logical order, stopped
chopping and changing the sequence and once they started talking and showing how something was done, stick with that bit of the work until it was done and then move on to the next.

But it was good to watch.

As Tilleyman said so correctly which I agreed with in one of my posts, the information is great but the sequence and editing leaves a bit to be desired.

Buy it, just don't go near a double rifle shop
for a few weeks afterwards, especially one's that
sell Holland Royal's !!!
