looking for info on pig hunting
      #72440 - 24/02/07 08:36 PM

I'm trying to find something to do this spring ( april? ). I'm planning to visit a friend in Idaho who
would like to hunt pigs, preferably in the southwest somewhere, but we may be willing to drive as far
as Texas or Oklahoma. We've never hunted pigs and are looking for information on opprtunities...........seasons, locations, costs, etc.
Thanks,
Karluk

Karluk,

The only place I have hunted hogs is in Ca. That is almost all on private property and will cost from $500 to $750 or so for a weekend hunt. I hear that there is decent hunting in Texas and florida also but have no experience there. P.M me if you like and I can let you in on what I know about Ca. hogs.

There are about a gazillion places in Texas to hunt hogs. If you want some recommendations let me know. As far as timing, the earlier the better as when it gets hot they move less in the daylight and it is no fun to be out chasing them.

For California, Kyler Hamann has gotten some good references that I have seen. I believe his website is www.boaring.com

If you want close I'd probably second Taos and say California. Texas is great too I've heard, but it depends on how far you want to drive. Though if you've never been, Texas is worth the drive!

I've heard good things about Kyler Hamann http://www.boaring.com/ but I've no personal experience with his hunts.

I dont know much about the hog hunting in Texas but if it's like everything else in the Lone Star State , then you cant go wrong!

Its a great place to hang out! especially Hill Country! where there is plenty of Shiner Bock and the dance halls are the best there is!

Thanks for the replies...........
I guess I should have been more specific on what I was looking for. I was hoping to find
some place we could hunt for about 5 days on our own. I would like to keep the cost down to
about $500. It sounds like Texas would be our best bet, but we might be trying to set this up
too late for this year.
