FAVORITE 9.3 x 74R SOFT POINT BULLETS???

I am considering getting a 9.3 Double and feel I will obviously end up handloading for it.

Any preferred softpoint bullets out there?

The velocity with a 286 gr hopefully will be about 2250.
I like Barnes ALOT in bolt guns but there is no way I am going to shoot a mono thru a Double for reasons previously discussed on this forum.

Regarding Woodleigh, Swift A Frames,NoslerPartitions,and ?Northfork bullets which seems to penetrate and expand best at 9.3 velocities?? Swifts? Heard the Woodleighs were ?soft and I am not thrilled with Noslers non-bonded partition bullet.NF will supposedly have a 286 gr bullet soon.

Any brass preferences? Rumor suggests that RWS is better than Norma per the AR forum.Any pet loads?

Any info or input will be appreciated.

The Swift A-Frames are tough and hold together well. The problem may lie in their selection...250gr or 300gr, no 286gr! With the slower velocities of the 9,3X74R, most bullets do just fine. I have had excellent results with the inexpensive Speer 270 Hot Cores. All they lack is snob appeal, and they are every bit as good as the Norma Oryx, maybe better. Again, they are not 286gr and may be a bit difficult to regulate in a conventional DR.

If you want to work up a DG load for softs, the 300gr A-Frames are my choice.

(the Win 375 shoots well, BTW)

Hi Hoppdoc, I was reloading the 9,3x74R for some time and I cannot confirm that RWS brass is better than Norma ! To make a long story short, try Norma brass.

I don't handload and rely on factory stuff. My Krieghoff was regulated for RWS 286 soft points. I don't like the bullet at all. It seems to be very soft and fragments on Whitetail.

I recently tried the Nosler loaded ammo. It's a 286 grain partition @ 2300 ft/sec. It shoots to the same point of impact as the RWS. It appears a little tighter in group size. but so far anything I've shot went clean through. Hence no spent bullets to see how well they faired. I haven't found schrapnel at all so the bullets must have held together.

Hopefully I'll get a chance at something bigger soon and will find out more.

Woodleigh bonded soft points would also be interesting to use and interchange with the corresponding solid.

NE450No2 reports using thousands of rounds thru his 9.3 and did mention the Woodleighs.Maybe using RWS brass Woodleigh's and IMR 4064 would make a good combo? Don't know or recall more specific loads mentioned.

I am looking at several doubles for the 9.3--
choices, choices!!

in my rifle the 300 gr a frames hit the same impact point as does the 286 gr. norma or rws

I have used several different bullets in my 9,3 double Chapuis over the years.

My favorites are the 286 Nosler Partition, 286 Woodleigh RN Soft and Solid.

I've reloaded more than a thousand rounds of 9.3x74R, and i have found RWS brass to be better than Norma. Sometimes you just can't be picky, but i'd take RWS over Norma any time... For me RWS brass last longer.

I have fired thousands of Nosler partitions (in various cals.) but none in 9.3 cal. on animials, "yet". To me it looks like "the expanding bullet of choise" to use where you want good expansion with decent penetration. I've yet to fire any NP at an animial and not be satisfied, and i've harvested numerous moose, bear and all kinds of other animials with them....
