Have 470 NE DR & 375 H&H need 416 Rigby?

This is a spin off HopDoc's "PG & DG Primary Gun?" thread.

I have a DR in 470 NE and a scoped 375 H&H w/QD mounts. Assuming cow/tuskless Ele, Buff, and PG on the menu...... is there any need or use for a scoped 416 Rigby?

Unless you have a craving to buy a 416 Rigby, I say no.

The 375H&H is perfectly fine as a second gun for the animals you listed including tuskless cows and buff (and many people would say fine as a primary gun too for that sake). Save the money you'd spend on the 416 Rigby for the hunt/trophy fees IMO.

Lets not forget that despite many members on hunting/shooting forums always preferring to go for bigger bores, untold numbers of buffalo and elephant are shot every year with the plain old 375H&H. Just as a wild guess, I wouldn't be suprised if more were shot with the 375H&H every year then all other calibers put together.

Do you NEED one? Probably not unless you are a gun nut like me.

Will the game notice the difference? Maybe yes!!
But Dead is Dead-- Just how long it takes the animal to get there.

If I had to choose between another big bore and booking a Safari I would probably take the Safari!!

I would go with the 416 because why not? you can never have enough bigbores but really the 470 and 375 is really all you need.

If you have a 375 and 470, then skip the 416 and use the money on a hunt.

Save what money for the hunt? A new Rigby is cheap and a used one could be had for chump change. Choose the 416 Rigby INSTEAD of the 375!
