I have gotten an urge for this classic shell.

Anybody knows of readily available parts and what is the price of them if there is something availbale ?

Is this a good cartridge today or isit best to consentrate on another one ?

Bullets of .333" are outdated and hard to find.
: Best to go with one of the modern wildcats that duplicates the ballistics, like the .338/06 standard or improved. Lots of bullets and easy brass. A-Square made the .338/06 a SAMMI 'factory' round a few years ago.
: If you want a bigger .338 case & more power, there's the .338 Mag - nums.
: The .375/06IMP is also a great round, ballistics superior to the .333 & .338/06IMP, easy to load at all levels with easy brass and bullets in all weights. .375 is also the minimum for many countries in Africa. It will duplicate original factory .375H&H ammo from 1912.

Woodleigh and at least ?one other company? make them. Just like shooting any other "old" calibre.

25 - 30 years ago, ammo for all the old English guns / calibres was hard to find until Woodleigh, Bell et al started making components. You had to buy what you could find at auction etc and have it sent out to Australia. (this was not me but was what some friends used to do).

I do agree with you though, suggest going with one of the modern equivalents.....
and leave the 333's to Corbin and I !!!!!

(Well, Corbin since I have mine !!!)

Fine cartridge that with 300gr bullets will take just about any game. Hawk and Woodleigh both make the bullets for it, Quality Cartridge and Kynoch both load ammo for it. RCBS makes dies for it. Barrels are available from Dan Pedersen at www.cutrifle.com .

I guess it depends on where you live. It is illegal for me to buy bullets from the States. I don't know about importing bullets from Australia - probably the same deal. Stores can order them, but only receive what their wholesalers carry and that's the normal run of Hornady, Sierra, Speer, Nosler and Barnes.
: So - I guess it depends on where you live. Here, the .333 is outdated and lacks and availability of jacketed bullets.

Daryl:

Is that a Provincial regulation or Federal?
I was under the impression that dealers could purchase from the states and import to Canada for use and/or re-sale

Federal regs. I've bought bullets from private US citizens and customs doesn't seem to mind, but then it's the old left and right hand deal, I think.
: Yes - dealers can buy from the Statres, as I said above. Retailers, for some reason, can rarely be prodded to order directly from the States - they mostly will only order from Canadian Wholesalers who sometimes are also reluctant or not intelligent enough to order special items. Rarely will they do anything 'extra'. It's the 'Wait long enough and maybe he'll go away, system here. For 2 years now, I've been trying (re-ordered several times) to get a scope mount to fit my M96 Muser's rear sight bracket. I can buy that part directly from the States myself as it isn't a 'gun part' but 2 years ago, I would have to have pay something like $160.00 CDN for the $75.00 US part. I was unwillng to pay double for it - still am.
; Items declared to be 'gun parts' must not exceed $100.00 value or an FFL is required for importation into Canada. some items such as scopes and bullets are not allowed to be purchased by Canadian citizens.

I have a nice Jeffery .333 double rifle that is just about the nicest little pig rifle you could ever ask for. I have bought custom .333 ammunition fron Stars and Stripes http://www.starsandstripesammo.com The fees are reasonable and they will work with you to achieve anything you want the round to do, ie regulation of a double. Don't know about the Canadian border thing though as they are in Florida.

Bob

Redleg, thanks for the link. I've been looking for more ammo suppliers. What loads do you shoot in your .333?

Although I have shot a couple of pigs with the commercial Knyoch loads from Galazan (expensive), I don't actually know the recipe that Stars and Stripes sent me. They sent me a regulating pack of 20 rounds........6 each of three different loads and a couple of max load rounds and instructions for regulation. I think it would have worked pretty well if I had done my part. The rifle was fairly new to me and I basically wasted the regulating rounds on the sheer joy of shooting. ;-) We are going to try it again soon. I moved to Hawaii last year and the rifle is still on the mainland with family and it will be out here later this year.

Aloha,

Bob
