If you right click on the picture over in photo bucket and select properties from the menu that pops up you will see the url for the picture. It's below

Look at the url. .jpg is the extension. You can't have more than three letters for an extenssion. .jpg is a valid extension. So I deleted everything after .jpg and tried it. It worked. Good guess huh!!! The Computer guru's can probably explain it better but the "how" is good enough for me.

I would like to see the top side of that tail. Blacktail deer tail is black on top and white the bottom more like a mule deer.

I would guess the top is Black.

Makes you wonder how rare a melanistic buck like that is? We hear about albino and piebald deer quite often, but hardly ever see or hear about black bucks like that.

Sure is a pretty one. I'd do my best to have that one done as a full body mount.

Well it's black and it's got a tail for sure, but I'm with Ann - looks like a whitetail rack to me.
: They do cross breed here in BC and Alberta - In BC, it's the rack that distenguishes proper naming, while in Albertl, it's the tail. To be a mule deer or sub species like Blacktail in Alta. it's got to have a black tip on the tail - here, that one ia a whitetail.

It's not a Blacktail at all. It is a melanistic phase Whitetail from the hill country of Texas. There are a number of like colored deer in the same general area. Very rare across the range of Whitetails.

Definitely not a blacktail deer, either Sitka or Columbia. It is a melan white-tail. Not rare, but uncommon.

These are recent blacktail shots. We also have the melans here in blackies.

Geographically it is a Black Tail. It also has a typical Black tail tail, not a Mule Deer Tail.

Size wise it is a Muley.

Maybe/probably a Cross?

The ears amd muzzle certainly do not look blackie, I would love to see the tail. Where was it shot.....not in the body, but what location in the world.
