The original British standards are for a 400 grain bullet over 60 grains Cordite for 2,125 fps in a 30" barrel, and 16 tons BaseCUP. I'm currently using new Bell cases, Federal 215 primers, 400 grain Woodleighs, and 1.5 grains Dacron fill over 68 grains Reloder 15 for 2,075 fps in 26" barrels. Be sure to slug the bores. Original factory drawings for this shell show a .411" bullet, but a tremendous number of the guns are .408" in the grooves, including mine. Bullets of both diameters are available.

thanks for the tip though mine when I get it will be a new Heym in 450/400 so I should be in the .411 size.

It's my understanding that the Heym will be regulated with the new Hornady ammo. Their load is quoted as 2,050 in 24" barrels and is loaded to CIP specs.

My Searcy Classic 450/400J with 26"barrels is to be regulated with AR2213SC (H4831)to around 2100fps.
The Heym should be great with the longer barrel and Pancake cheek piece options.

lapua:
If you want an 'Australian' load, you will find that 80 or 81 gr AR2213 will equate to a 'factory load'. Not sure about the 'short cut' version, but I'm sure you would be perfectly safe starting at 80gr. My Jeffery double regulates perfectly with 81 grains, and is very accurate. No filler is needed.

I use a mixture of BELL and Bertram brass, nothing wrong with current Bertram cases in myy experience, as long as you are prepared to tidy up the flash-holes and neck-size before the first load, which I do routinely with all brands anyway.

I am using Jamison brass woodlegh 411 softs and solids with 82 gr of imr 4831. I will crono soon. faster makes the group closer slower is wider. you dont need any filler.

In Hornady's pressure testing during development of their new .450/.400 3" factory ammunition, 82 grains IMR 4831, Hornady case, Federal 215 primer and 400 grain Hornady soft point bullet produced 44,000 PSI. The CIP (this cartridge is CIP standardized, not SAAMI) maximum permissable average chamber pressure for the .450/.400 3" is 40,610 PSI. Different brand case and bullet, but that load is almost certainly over the top.

My load for my 55 cord 450/400 is a 400 grain Woodleigh, 62 grains of RL-15 plus 2-3 grains of Dacron Poly filler. Lately I have sqitched over to the Kynoch foam wads. They are much easier that weighing each tuft of Dacron.

This load also shoots same POA for 300 grain Hawks. .035 jackets.

My load for my 55 cordite Jeffery 400 3" has turned out to be 67.5 grs of 4064 with 400 gr Woodleigh Softs, Fed 215s and 1.5grs of Dacron fill in Bell Brass. It shoots into an inch at 50 yds right on top of the bead at 2050fps.

With Hornady 300 gr .411 bullets I lower the charge to 66 grs of 4064 and get a 2120fps load that regulates well.

I tried the standard 4831 and Rel 15 loads but could not get the same regulation. It's funny how few guns I've got to shoot well with Rel 15. I've had a few including my 416 Hoffman that love 4064. It's probably because I'm a lefty

No doubt each double is a story of it's own.
