Is anyone familiar with this type of bullet and its purpose?

It is a paper patched lead bullet with what appears to be a copper core. This particular round is in a Eley factory loaded 577/450.

Lead, paper patched, copper tubed, and copper pointed bullet. Not particularly common, as most of these Eley BPE bullets were simply copper tubed. The copper point was intended to initiate expansion.

Oh man that isn't very exotic. I was hoping for a special bullet designed by Pondoro for shooting runaway locmotives or maybe one of those rounds they used in the Martini for shooting down ballons in The Great War.

Turns out be just what it looks like a period hunting bullet...thanks anyway 400NE!
