There's on old string on this rifle. It's been for sale for a long time. There's probably a reason for that. Trade built rifle originally of good quality. I had a Watson Brothers that was almost identical.

I haven't handled this rifle, but have two friends, both sharp DR guys, who have. If you decide to make a run at it, this one really needs to be carefully evaluated by a pro first, especially the stock. I have a hunch that it may turn out to be an action, barrels, and fore-end iron. A first class complete restock is very expensive. The fore-end wood has chips out of both sides, which can probably be successfully repaired, but "probably" doesn't translate to value. The stock head has been repaired, but doesn't look to be well done.

If it turns out to need a full restock, but is in excellent condition otherwise, I think it's worth around $5,000. Additional problems will reduce that.

Not a bad looking rifle, but for the money, I would rather have a new Searcy double in 500.

I have an Alex Henry that is almost identical. I like it alot and problems aside it is a very accurate and handy rifle.

I've handled that gun. Needs a restock job. It also may be the only screwgrip that I've seen off face.

Is this post of yours, Bulldog, based upon firsthand knowledge, or from what you have read here on NE and AR?

Without viewing the spindle, it certainly looks like a screw grip.

Bwana600,

Thanks for your comment. Can you elaborate on you findings please? Why does it need a re-stocking? Is it cosmetic or something serious? How badly is it off face?

Thx.

The wood seems tight, but has some flaws. If I remember it had some chips in the forarm. The buttstock looks like it has been repaired in 2 places. When you hold it to the light you can see abit of light between the watertable and the flats. and there is slight movement in the action. It has been a couple of months since I've seen it so my memory is abit fuzzy. I did like the long barrels, It balanced nice.

I have no real firsthand knowledge of this rifle but have handled doubles with a screw grip action and it sure looks like one, especially in the picture Marrakai posted from cabelas. The action has been discussed on NE before... Not sure about ar.

I came very close, to the point of possibly flying out to look at it.. but fellow Nitro brothers saved me.. They had actualy gone and looked at the rifle for me. If the bores would have been good enough they felt the rifle could be salvaged if you could get it around 6k. they felt the bores wern't good enough to warrant this big of an outlay for a complete re-work.. Face was off enough you could see large amounts of light, and action wobbled around in your hands.. Even the sales guy I talked to over the phone with it in his hands said he wouldn't buy it. Said he wanted no dissatisfied customers.. "BUT" feelings were if you could get it at 6k, put it on face, beefed up and repaired the stocks (not replace) you would have a good working double you wouldnt have to worry about hunting with..

Thank God for Nitro brothers! I'm satisfied enough with what i've read not to purse it.

hmmm sounds like the old case of---if elephants had wings elephants could fly! Seems this gun needs alot of redo to make it a gun that would shoot.

The pictures do make it look good though. I like the finish on the wood, alot. My colour.

I recently called on the rifle. Don't remember who I talked with, probably better to remain anonymous, he mentioned in his opinion the rifle was "probably off face", the stock was "loose", those two things were enough to tell me you may have to put a lot of money in the gun. I believe I would pass on this one!!

Thanks for popping this to the top of the stack. As I mentioned in my other thread, I also called about it and the sales guy said that it was out being repaired. They're trying to get it ready for SCI.
