I have an 1859 Sharps 22" carbine barrel that was re-lined and chambered to .50/70 by Sharps in the 1868 Government contract to Sharps. It is in excellent condition, inside and out and has Sharps sights on it. It shoots under 3" groups at 100 meters off the bags using BlackPowder and 450 original style grooved lubricated bullets. The twist is the standard 42" of the early barrels. I've also shot smokeless loads that duplicate BP velocities for slightly better accuracy.
: I wish to trade this barrel for a Sharps re-pro barrel chambered in any case length to 2-7/8" in .45 calibre. It can be round as in the 'hunter's' rifle, or tapered octagonal. .45/70 or .45/60 would be preferred but not essential. I'd like a longer barrel for silouette shooting.
: I will include the brass I have which includes 2 moulds, one Lee for the original bullet style, and another Lyman mould I shortened to 422gr. to provide a more accurate bullet for the 42" twist.
