I'm looking into booking a Red Stag hunt next spring in NZ. It didnt take long to figure out that most folks are buying big Stags behind fences and calling it hunting. Thats not really my style. I'm looking into a free range hunt with South Pacific Hunters out of Queensland. Have any of you fine folks spent time in the bush with David? He does hold the free range world record for archery red stag. It looks like a quality set up and fairly priced for what is offered. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Steve
But if you do please do a report for us especially if it is all fair-chase.
Another option is to tell the Kiwi outfitters that you only want to do it fair chase. None of the small fenced paddock crap and shooting from chopper crap.
Most of them claim to do it fair chase, except they argue most clients want it that way.

Well I am more than happy! I took a two great animals, completely fair chase and free range. A VERY, Very nice red stag, 6x7, and a great fallow buck. David dosen't just claim fair chase, it is fair chase. He spends lots of time securing great private property to hunt and glsses many animals before deciding on a stalk. This hunt was everything I had hoped for and more. If you are interested in a real fair chase hunt for trophy animals in New Zealand or OZ, let me know and I'll forward the details along. I will be back. Pictures to be posted upon my return to the states. This is good stuff! Steve
better lat than never...all animals are free range...I did the chamoi without a guide on public land....he isnt very big, but I did it myself. I was very, very happy with the fallow and the red. I built the mauser in gunsmithing school, my first full build. Steve
