Very high Courtney boot prices in Zimbabwe!!!
      #62768 - 21/09/06 01:42 AM

I planned to buy a couple pairs of Courtney boots while in Bulawayo last month.

Went into the two main stores that stock them.

Tried the "Safari" models but didn't like their fit. Very uncomfortable. Marked as "90". The "Selous" model was far better and felt nice. Price marked as "115".

Said I would take two pairs of the Selous. Then found out it was 115,000 Zimbabwe dollars The Indian sales clerk then quoted me US$325 PER PAIR! And US$250 for the crap "Safari" model.

I told them they had to be joking at those prices.

Also seems the clown sales clerk also quoted me an exchange rate at the "official" bank rate (350:1), not the BM rate of around 550 to 620 : 1.

Lost the sale.

At those sorts of prices for a plain leather boot I can find MUCH MUCH better alternatives. The cheap boots I hunted with made in Asia are comparable in function if not leather looks to the Courtneys and cost be A$70.

Hey I see a market opportunity to get good kangaroo leather boots made to look similar to Courtneys in Asia and make a killing.

I think they are expensive due to the name. I think I will stick with my Russells.

Check out if Steve/Shakari is still selling the boots he was making last year. As you might recall, I couldn't have been more pleased with mine, and they were very comfortable and silent from the first second I had them on. Much more so than the Courtney boots I've tried.

Steve's boots.

What the hell?

Two weeks ago I bought a pair of Courtney safari boots (buff hide) for $140 from Feredays. (Westley Richards wants $250). Did not price them at Hunter's Paradise, because it is a time-consuming pain in the butt to shop there. Exchange rates quotes to me were 600:1 and 650:1.

Perhaps your more dignified appearance caused the clerk to believe you could afford to pay more.

I had the US$ but not US$325 for ordinary boots!

I remember clearly saying around a hundred bucks is about the right price and they weren't in the slightest interested.

Well never for me again, unless they are now free!

That was a ridiculous price and an obvious attempt at fleecing. I paid 125 for my Selous last June (05) at a store in Bulawayo It was owned by an Indian) and 100 for the safaris for my wife. I was with my PH, si maybe that helped. 500grains were is Feredays? jorge

NitroX

Don't make them in Kangaroo leather otherwise it will rule them out of the US Market !

But a good idea all the same - Kangaroo leather would have alot of good qualities.

Myself I will make do with something more functional and perhaps less pretty. Booked (and wasted) a day in Bulawayo for the purpose of buying a couple of pairs however.

I think the shopkeeper thought a fleecing was in order.
