Hallo,

I´m new here, on nitroexpress.com. (Sorry for my bad english.)
I´m very interested in old german and engl. calibres. Last year I had my gunsmith let build me a new Mauser 98 with an Lothar-Walther-barrell in 10,75x68.
My next projekt, maybe next year, would be an allweatherrifle with polycarbonstock, but in african-style with Express-sight, and 27.5" stainless or coated barrell in basic of a Brünner Magnum or Parker-Hale-Reciver in the old english calibre of .350Rigby Mag.
I will take it for hunting deers in the scotish Highlands, moose, caribous or sheeps in Canada or comperible games in Africa like Kudus, Bongos or Elands, also for wildboars here in Germany.
Has anyone of you an rifle or experiences in this calibre?
My fafourit buillets would be the 225gr. Nosler Ballistic-Tip for long distances at sheep and deer-hunting and the 250gr. Speer Grand-Slam, (I shoot it in my old 9x57Mauser) for the bigger ones.

One of my friends has a .350 Rigby Magnum, and a couple of other friends never stop grumbling about having parted with theirs years ago! I believe you will be very satisfied with the calibre.

NitroExpress member "ovis" has a Rigby rifle chambered for this cartridge. He's probably already heading to the Brooks Range for sheep season, though. Do a search of posts by "ovis" and you should be able to find some information and a few pictures.

Manolito, I have an original Rigby Model No. 4 built in 1921 for the 350 Rigby Magnum. I load Bertram Brass with 225 gr. Woodleigh Weldcores to about 2675 fps and it is a delight to shoot with minimal recoil. This is a great caliber that exceeds 35 Whelen ballistics and approximates what the 338 WM can do in a great old cartidge that should not be allowed to die.

One of the traditions here is that you must post pictures of your rifle and show her off to the other members. Then, when you visit Chicago, I would happily buy you some beers as would other members when you visit where they live.

Excuse me for butting in. I have some good experience with my 9x57R double rifle.

I am using .444 Marlin brass, formed properly (an easy task). The rim is just right in my rifle, and the .444 head is exactly right. For a rimless (bolt action) I suggest necking up the 8x57 brass - the shoulder is exactly right, just need a larger neck.

My load for my Francotte DR (VIEW IT HERE) is 53.0 grains Hodgdon's BLC-2; 250 grain Hornady .358 RN (stock #3525); CCI 250 primer; in the brass just described.

Please take note that my rifle slugs out at .358", so I am able to use 35 caliber bullets rather than the 9mm (.355") bullets. THIS IS IMPORTANT!.

This is a mild load, suitable for a DR. Reducing the powder charge results in a smoked case, indicating the brass isn't sealing the chamber fully (pressure too low).

My first advice to your friend is to slug the barrel and search for appropriate bullets.

If his rifle is of German origin, made after 1912, the bullet weight should be stamped on the barrel among the proof marks, in grams. The mark will be "St.M.G. xx gr." where the xx is the bullet weight in grams. Prior to 1912 the bullet type is specified (here a steel jacket), but not the weight.

sorry that I don´t can put pictures from my 10.75 into the forum, because I´m not THE computer-specialist. But when I know how to handle it, I´ll do it.
Till this time here a short description of my 10.75:

Reciever: Typ Mauser M98 from Radom build in 1930 with orig. saftywing on the log.

Barrell: 655mm (25 3/4") Lothar-Walther with 19.5mm (3/4") muzzle.

German double-trigger

Scope: Pecar/Berlin 4-10x52

Stock: slim chocolade-brown walnutstock with an light Monte-Carlo-effect and softrubber-recoilsafer(don´t know whats the corect engl. word) from limbsaver.

Sigt: Williamssight

The load for the cartrige is:
Case: Horneber
Buillet: .423" Woodleigh softpoint-roundnose 347grain
Primer: Sellier&Bellot large-rifle
Powder: Rottweil R902
Weight: 66.5 grain
Cartrigdelength (full): 3.24"
(I declare that I don´t take any liability and give not any guarantee for the correctness of the loading-datas upon.)

The muzzle-velocity by 23.5" barrelllength is 2000ft./sec., so that by 25.75" barrelllength is it arround 2100ft./sec.

Oh, by the way:

Have anyone of the .350Rigby user here in the forum loadingdatas and velocitydatas (with barrelllength) for 250 and 280grain buillets for the Rigby.
Best with Rottweil, Norma or Kemira/Vihtavuori-powder. American-powder is just Realoader RL and sometimes Hodgdon available; no DuPont IMR and no Win./Olin.
