I have thought about a Bowie knife for hunting, which will give me best value for the money?

I have tried various bowie style knives over the years, Gerber etc Without a doubt the best and most versatile knife that I still own is a "Ka-bar" USMC knife used by the american military. The knife I have is an older knife that holds its edge well and is easy to maintain. I'm thinking that the newer knives are similar. I've used mine for bleeding animals right up to buffalo very effectively. (The skin on a buffalo can be a centimetre thick or more at the throat)

big412 is spot-on with the K-bar, but a modern light-weight version which you might find much cheaper close to home is the Glock knife. We get them here for about $65 Australian, I have had one now for a couple of years and it still shaves with a few strokes on the white Spyderco ceramic stone.

I too have butchered buffalo with mine, but I use an inexpensive snap-blade box-cutter these days to get through the hide first. Saves the edge on your good knife from all the dirt and sand on an animal's hide.

Might even start carrying my Schrade PH1 in the field again.....

anything by Glock has to be good! I wasn't aware that they made knives tho, where did you get yours from??

Dunno what their pricing is like, but they do stock the knives according to the ads in the SSAA publications. Can't find them on their pistols4u.com website though.

Three colours should be available: Black, Drab Olive, or Desert Sand, with or without saw-teeth on the back of the blade.
