Franz Scmid (Ferlach) Double Rifle Drilling
      #60097 - 18/07/06 09:02 PM

I have just purchased (as in paid for, but not yet received) a Ferlach double rifle drilling in 9.3x74R, 9.3x74R, 16 bore.
When (if) it arrives I will take some pictures and report on the progress of regulating it etc.
I am off to Gan Gan on the 20th August and I don't think it will arrive in time, so the custom Ruger #1 will probably get another work-out, but here's hoping!
I intend to use it for NT Boar and Sambar and Rabbits, goats...
I have RWS ammo which I will reload with 286 grn Partitions. For Buff I intend to use Brennekke rifled slugs in the shotgun barrel. Is this potentially a problem? I'll use SG's for pigs but am concerned that the slugs could damage the gun. Any experienced advice would be appreciated.

Regards,
The Professor.

I have talk with Dr. Mank, the owner of Brennecke once about using Brennecke slugs in pinfire shotguns. Mister Mank tells me that the brennecke slug was designed to be safe in any shotgun barrel, safe to shot with shotgun cartridges.
You may imagine that no shotgun, capegun , drilling was build in germany and austria where the gunmake dont think about the use of slugs in it.

It should read Franz Schmid. I believe he was a custom gun maker in Ferlach, which is the famous gun making area of Austria. It was probably built around the 50s or 60s and is in original condition. I have read about double rifle drillings but this is exactly what I have been searching for. It is a side plated boxlock. I presume it has three locks and so could not be a true sidelock (I am not very technically minded). It has extensive engraving with Wapati, Bears and Moose.
I can tell you no more until it arrives. I have spoken to NitroX and he will post some pictures when I get it.

Regards,

The Professor.
