finally went shooting again

Well, it has been 3 months since my son had his fatal accident and I finally went shooting again. My oldest son, Sean and my youngest daughter,Dana went to shoot. It has taken me this long to get up enough gump to get out and do it. Nothing fancy, but we shot a 9mm, a 45 acp, a S&W 500mag. We also shot a 500 nitro ruger #1, and I shot my 585 3" nyati. Everything went pretty well, but I still really miss my son. The 500, and 585 both seemed to kick a hell of alot more than I remember when I shot them last time. I was using some prtyy hot loads in both. The 500 was sending 570 grain bullets at 2365 ft/sec. and the 585 was shooting 750 grain bullets at 2500 ft./sec. , for me, those are pretty stout loads. The 700 grain ballistic supply 500 mag. bullets in the hand gun were pretty good thumpers to. Maybe this is what I needed to try to get back on track a littlle bit. Just thought I would let you all know that we are surviving. thanks. Ken

I think those are "pretty stout" loads for anyone. Good to hear you made it out to the range although I am sure it was hard for you. Again, my condolences on your tragic loss.

Good for you.

Welcome back to the range.
It's important to get yourself back up and on your feet.

That seven hundred grain load in the revolver will definitely check your footing!
I haven't run any of the very heavy loads in my PC Hunter, don't think I will either. I really like how the 350gr gascheck bullets work in that gun, very accurate and stout enough to punch through half inch steel plate at a hundred yards.

Your son's star shines bright, he will accompany you into the shooting field wherever you go, he will be the wind that blows, the Autumn rain, the first snow falls of winter.

He will always be with you, go out and shoot as if he were with you, just because you don't see him in front of you doesn't mean he is not with you, talk to him just as you did when he was there, curse when you take a bad shot and maybe miss, he will laugh with you.

He will always be your son, and unlike the rest of us he will enjoy eternal youth.

Welcome back. I know it will be tough from time to time. JTOMLINSON'S post is wonderful and he is right too.

Your son is with you, enjoy his company best you can.

BTW, the stuff your shooting would make me cry.

It definatly helps to think of my 14 year old being there with me. I try to use this method of thinking to get through my work days, and still be sane at the end of each day. While it helps to think of him by my side, it just falls way short of being able to see and touch him. But it is better than nothing. I am looking forward to recieving my 510 kodiak express lever action (it has been delayed untill november). I should have my 600 ok AHR by the end of july. We will see how it handles the hot loads and what recoil is like. Thanks for the nice welcome back. I do certainly appreciate it, and always remember to let your kids know how much you love them. I don't think they ever really get tired of hearing it even as they get older !

It is certainly good to see you back. To kindle the thaughts of your son is the only way to survive. On the 22nd my dad passed away a year ago, I miss him a lot, what you are doing is exactly what I did. Keeping he memory alive keeps you sane and it helps to sooth the pain.

I am glad you made it out to the range and started shooting again. Counting the days till a new rifle arives is almost like waiting for the day you leave on a hunting trip. Eventually the big day is there

I certainly will. I hope it gets here when scheduled. Ed was having trouble with getting the barrels, and was maybe going to switch to pac-nor. He says it won't cause a delay. We will see.

Take your other kids out shooting or hunting each birthday as a way to remember him. Doing an activity hopefully everyone can enjoy.
