We have had antler restrictions here in PA now for 2 years. You can not shoot a buck if it does not have more than 3 or 4 points on a side depending on what area you hunt. These restrictions are paying off. This buck was taken near where I hunt on the last day of the 2003 rifle season last Saturday.Nice buck for the last minute!

Yum! Luck fellow and on the last day too.
To my uneducated Whitetail eye the tines look like they have nice weight too. How old would a buck like this be as a guess?

The area this buck is from has lots of good feed. Bucks grow big from 3 1/2 years plus. This is when their bodies meet their max size skeleton wise and they just get bigger (heavier) and grow bigger racks. This buck is most likely 4-5 years old. They can live to 12-14 years old in the wild (if not killed by hunters, cars or sicknes) but after 6-7 years of age the rack quality usually starts to decline.

That is a nice buck, no matter where it came from! I've noticed the bucks are getting nicer antlers here in Pa. since the antler restrictions were put in place. This year my neighbor shot a 16 pt. buck with triple main beams up on the hill behind my house. No one had seen it until he killed it on the 2nd day of the season.
