ANY NICKNAMES FOR YOUR RIFLES???
      #58257 - 04/06/06 12:02 AM

It always surprises me when people name their rifles and how they got that name.

Since I bought my 470 NE I have nicknamed it-Thumper. My wife won't let me call my 458 WM in public what I really wanted to-Big B*sturd- so I kindly refer to it as BB.

Any colorful names attached to any forum members rifles?
And how did you come up with the name?

I call my 375 "El Troubador". The name came from a friends .375 & the critters hate it when he sings his song.

I call my .375 "Pea-Spitter" and I refer to 270gr loads as "plinking ammo". 300gr loads are called "fun ammo". I think I need a 4 bore so I can affectionately call it the "Spud gun" while keeping the same vegitable theme running.

My .375 bolt action is known by its name of "Stormbringer", after the evil black sword of Ulrik the Albino.

My Jeffrey .450 double, the "Indian Gentleman" has the name "Zabardast", meaning "Awesome" in Urdu thanks to Iqbaal of these forums.

My 9.3 double while blooded is still un-named.

Haven't named any of my guns, but did name my recurve bow, actually had that put on the bow when it was made.

"Tashauna" means one of a kind

Hello all,

New to this forum, and a relative newcomer to shooting big bores. I've been having a great deal of fun over the last year with a CZ in .458 win.

Having been accustomed to rather svelt rifles, the sheer mass of this CZ prompted me to nick name it "Gunzilla". Appropriate I believe!

Good shooting to you all!

Most of my rifles are nameless tools but my Marlin Guide Gun has it's nickname "Mjolnir" - the name of Thor's hammer - engraved on the left flat of the receiver.

I affectionately named my 14 Bore English Sporting Rifle, Bitch. With full power loads, it bites like one.

I have a Hart barrelled Winchester Model 70 in .220 Swift which the previous now departed owned named "Old Thor" because of the thunderbolt like effect it produced on crows and groundhogs. My McMillan stocked Schneider barrelled .308 pre-war Model 70 target rifle is called "Black Beauty" because of the beautiful scores she has shot for me at 300 and 600 yards. My Krieghoff Teck O/U .458 is called "The Judge", because there is no appeal from his sentences.

Do have a synthetic Ruger all weather Labounty rebored 20" barreled 458 WM I refer to as "SOB" when shooting due to its irritating recoil. With scope it runs about 7 pounds. Its not particularly accurate with factory fodder and its killed 2 Leupold scopes to date.I think I will try a red dot scope next. It is one of my big bear guns.

Not many names on the rifles, but I often ask clients to think of their first muttering when they're packing out a load of meat through the willows, and a griz stands up. ........usually they think of Oh Shit! Well, then I show them my .454 Casull with the barrel engraved "Ahhhhh Shit!"
It's often been my first words as the gun came out of the holster under the wrong circumstances. And I believe it's the last words thought of, by too many grizz! ~Arctic~

Only one: the .458WM I built on a Remington 30S action, keeping the original (experienced) stock, with a 24" barrel measuring 1"O.D. at the muzzle - all metalwork Parkerized, Lyman 48 receiver sight and Redfield Sourdough front sight on a low ramp. I call it 'Old Ugly' - but beauty is as beauty does, so they say, and boy, does it shoot - many 100 yard full-power groups under 1", and functions slicker than the well-known mucus coated doorknob. As it weighs just under 11 lbs., it is also relatively pleasant to shoot, and balances well for fast handling. So I always refer to it by name fondly, with due respect.
