Should there be a single shot rifle forum?
      #5788 - 17/12/03 09:51 AM

Just wondering if there would be enough interest for something like this? How many of you collect and/or shoot single shots?

I've got one a Ruger #3 in 223 that I did some work on. I am saving my aluminum can money now for a Merkel single shot in 30 Blaser.

DD,

I was hoping you would be.

Mickey,

You're one SS ahead of me, but I'm working on getting another.

I'd be a happy camper with a S/S forum.

I have nothing exotic, but I do love my Ruger #1s and some of the Brownings & Winchesters.

Yes, I would use a Single Shot forum. I regularly use the following-
Ruger No1
Colt Sharps
Browning 1885
Martini Henry
Martini Cadet

Thanks

I think there are a lot more ss shooters out there than most folks think! The Ruger No1 brought back the interest in the classic singleshot rifles a few years ago, then the very popular COWBOY shooting clubs, along with the Movie QUIGGLEY DOWN UNDER, have brought back the interest in the old SHARPS Buffalo rifles. Then there are the Farquarson collectors. I started all my kids shooting singleshots, both rifle, and shotguns, and I, and all of them still shoot Ruger No1s! I think a single shot forum would draw a lot of interest! The first thing after it is put into existance is to go to all the sights, and post in their sites of the forum.

I love singleshot rifles. Currently am down to two, both Ruger No.1's. A 338 Win Mag in a No.1 S and a 7x57 in a RSI. Saving my pennies for a Hagn to be chambered in 275 H&H to be a duo with the 1950 Model 70 in 300 H&H I just purchased.

I'd also love to get my hands on a nice Martini like Double D's Hollis, maybe chamber for 32/20 or 25/20 if its possible. I just don't know much about the Martini's, but they sure are beautiful and interesting.

Anyone here own an original Farquharson?

Looks like there is some interest, but not as much as I originally thought there would be. Maybe, given the cost, the Double Rifles and Big Bores forum will do when we have questions, comments, etc.

By the way, if you are interested in British single shots, I recommend Jon Kirton's book on the British Breech Loading Falling Block Rifles from 1865 - great information and photos on Gibbs-Farquharson, Field, Fraser, etc.

Also, if you need information about a particular manufacturer (especially British makers) I heartily recommend the "Internet Gun Club" - http://www.internetgunclub.com
- some of the entries specify who has the factory records, so you can check to see who originally purchased your gun when new!

Agreed, Levallois.

Besides, if I hold two Ruger #1s side by side that makes a double doesn't it?
