Hello everyone in the Forum. Letīs see if my poor english will allow me to discuss a bit with you guys. Iīll try my best.

As a first contribution Iīll start with this old topic:

For first class spanish double rifles not mentioned in the topic:

ARMAS DIEGO GODOY from Eibar (No web site or e-mail).

GRAVEX (Not in Eibar, no web site or e-mail) Many of its rifles are finished by ARMAS DIEGO GODOY.

ARMAS MAGUREGUI from Eibar (No web site, he has e-mail)

All of them made with reinforced actions of Hollandīs patern and amazing accuracy. Stocking shape is good but not as nice as the pure british shape.

For good honest doubles:

ARMAS EIBAR, S.L. (better known as LAURONA)
http://www.laurona.com/

Hope it helps.

The Preacher

p.s: Spain is still the place to order a best quality for a fraction of the price, thou this fraction is less fraction with each passing day.

Gentlemen:
Thanks much for the info. I just acquired a Gaucher S/S 9.3x74R in Romorantin, France .... had no idea of its origins until finding this discussion.
It is different from the doubles shown in the Bretton-Gaucher site, in that the receiver resembles the higher grade box-lock, though the trigger guard is a plain design, and the buttstock is straight/English. There is no "Bretton" stamping, only "Gaucher" .... and that on the rib only. If any of you can offer any information on this line on doubles, I would be very grateful.
Alex

Alex,

If I were you I would post a seperate thread in this forum asking about your double. You can get some incredible info on this site as long as the right people see it.

Good Luck.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the continued comments.

At the moment I am building a new "platform" for some of these features, including hopefully this extensive list re-worked in a friendly format. Thanks.

Australain members will know that Ron Webb of Queensland was putting together some well made doubles on Ruger Red Label over-and-under actions before he retired.

Now there's a name from the past. I had the pleasure of meeting Ron during a week long class at the Ruger plant in NH back in 1985. Just as most Okkers I've met, he's a pistol, as we say. Tried to look him up when I got to Qnslnd in '89 but couldn't make the connection.

Hi,
You can add the following to your list too:
UK Makers:
Army and Navy CSL
William Moore and Grey
Price
These are older makers not still producing but all made good quality guns.
Of course Webley manufactured 90% of the box lock actions used by the better known London makers.
In South Africa, B. W. Laubscher and Associates have built their first best grade sidelock ejector incorporating the finest lines of the best English makes. Not quite ready to fire yet, but not far off. Bennie Laubscher is the best bolt action rifle maker here and his guns are as good as you will find anywhere.
There are a number of other gun makers here building doubles on Butch Cercie actions.

www.kriebernegg.com

...not nearly as well known as some of the great-named rifle-makers but he is a rifle-maker (Ferlach-school, but no Ferlach taxes) with exceptionally great operational experience in the hunting-field on the .450 NE and .500 NE...

...makes very good doubles at moderate prices - if desired with very special tailored load/bullet/combinations for that special rifle to built...

The only thing you have to live with: it can take some time for finishing such a rifle (but if you do not have pressure on time - this man can be THE ticket for your top-double...)

I would like to include Siace as I have a very beautiful and functional double rifle from them that I bought last month. It is 45-70 as that is the caliber that I wanted. If you question the ability of the caliber, then look at garrett cartidges .com. So much more refined than a Merkel which I owned, but then aesthetics are a big deal to me. Look at their websie, www.siace.com.

Hello Gentlemen,

There is now a Double Rifle Maker in Australia!
He has been working on guns for over 20 years, as a "regular joe", "punching the clock" as an employeed gunsmith. In that time he built himself a 9.3 x 74R Double Rifle and also some magazine rifles for friends.
He has branched into business for himself in the last 3 years.

I believe they make 12 guns a year - mainly shotguns

You left out Thomas Bland and Sons, currently making Double Rifles. Located in Pennsylvania, made in England. I was fortunate to visit the showroom, and talk to the owner. QUALITY.
