Allen Day (allenday) has hunted with him a couple of times, most recently a few months ago. If he doesn't respond, you might PM him.

I leave in a month to hunt with Mark in the Salous (LU-2). I'll tell you all about it when I get back in August. As for the cost - how can you put a price on the experience of a life time? Having said that however, it seems much of the money goes to the government of Tanzania, and although I do not begrudge them that, it would seem a little less like money grubbing if there was a single fee rather than a bunch of smaller fees such as the concession fees, anti poaching fees, observer fees etc.

Please post your experiences of your hunt when you return.
It is always more valuable to hear the first hand direct accounts than all the thid hand chatter we seem to have on the internet.
What will you be hunting and how many days? Which concession?
Good luck and good hunting.

I agree that Mr. Sullivan's rates are high. However, as he always seems to sell his hunts, the market seems to bear what he charges. A fellow who is willing to shop around, compare and get references can find a great hunt for less money, however.

He has an interesting clip for those unfamiliar with his hunting tactics. Very thrilling indeed!
Link is here: (go to play video and press play, I love the end when the hippo raises its head for the last, and relents to the defeat of a .600 Nitro

Droplock, I think he's actually using the .577 for that one.

Well, my hats off to him!!
Are there other PH's who would provoke such a hippo attack?
I wonder how many animals he has taken in this fashion? He sure seems to deliver when crunch time happens.
If I ever hunt and have to go in the thick stuff after a wounded Buff or cat I would sure want someone of his abilities and temperment present.
I remain impressed after watching the video several times. May his hunting continue successful because I would hate hearing about horrible outcomes..

Your chances of needing someone with his ability are much higher when you hunt with him.

I had seen $25,000 quoted once for a 1x1 10 day buffalo hunt. At $15,500 he is well within the ball park of lots of other Tanzania outfitters unless they discount their prices.
Does this also include charter costs?

OK we must be talking about a different piece of footage then. When I click on play video on the MS site it shows him killing a charging hippo with his Charles Osborne .577 NE boxlock. This is the footage where Sullivan is kicking up dust with his boot to help induce the charge.
His 600 is a sidelock by Thys.

I watched the video clip too and I didn't see the Thys 600NE sidelock at all. (I have a special intrest since I own a Thys sidelock DR - but not a 600!) I did see the 577NE boxlock. I believe his 600NE Thys sidelock hit the market last summer, fyi. Don't know when the filming occurred. Maybe even he got tired of the 600's recoil?

I said; I called and asked him when I inquired about a hunt. He advised that was a .600 nitro in the video, I didn't ask what kind, though it sure isn't a Thys sidelock. Looks to be a webley actioned boxlock but the calibre can not be discovered just by looking at the footage.
He also advised that his favorite calibre was a .600 during our exchange, at that point I asked him what are his favorite makers. His reply was anything British, and I left it at that.

I surmise that the rifle is a 577, and I guess 4seventy does as well, since MS discussed this rifle in an earlier video.
MS used the Thys for quite a bit. It is in several videos and, when I saw it offered for sale, the blueing was well worn hwere one would expect from lots of carrying. Wood needed a refinish but was fine. Based on my experience, Thys' blueing hold up well but the wood finish doesn't like the heat.

OK...kinda hard to tell who is doing the shooting. I certainly wouldnt want to pay for the PH to do half of my shooting for me! Kinda hard to hang that head at home and explain that the PH shot it for me. I like the up close and personal but I've got to be responsible for my own trophies. Just my opinion. Armbar.

The price list didn't post as well as I would of wished. The price of the safari does not include: trophy fees, conservation fee, hunting permit, firearms import fee, trophy packing and prep, personal expenses and gratuities, air charter or the the cost of hotels and meals prior to and after the safari.
