8x60 Magnum

I though you might like to see a different rifle. It is an 8x60 Magnum built on a Mauser action with some very different features. Full Octagon Barrel, Express sights to 500 yards and a ladder sight to 1200 yards.Buffalo Horn forend cap and grip cap, Carries: Fritz Weiss of Suhl Germany and the name R. Mu(e)ller on the barrel.
According to the Cartridges of the World the Magnum generates velocities at 300H&H levels.
Moderate engraving and carries like any fine rifle should.

Nice Rifle. How far have you tried the irons to? I would be interested to see how optimistic they are.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. The gentleman I purchased it from is not feeling well at the moment so has not found the dies or brass and loaded ammo. I tracked down some dies to order next week if he cannot find any.
With a 1200 yard ladder sight I susspect I will try out to 600 yards which is the furthest measured range I have available to me. I just hope my eyes can still see that far.

What a beautifully understated rifle! A fine choice and thanks for psoting. Do let us have some pictures after you shoot her.

Good hunting!

Nice looking rig.

Have you slugged the bore yet?
If not, do so before you order supplies for it or shoot it.
I'm guessing it's a .318" bore rifle, and you need to know for sure.

Either way the bore ends up, brass is going to be easy for you, I use modified 30-06 brass in a very similar rifle.

Have you gotten the metal out of the wood yet?
I'd like to see the proofs on this rifle.

Yes and it measured at .323. I was thankful for that as I shoot several other 8's and they are also .323.
I was planning on the '06 conversion based on Donnely's book and no I have not yet taken it apart to check but I will shoto the proofs and post them when I do.

Hi Frank,
I use that caliber in an original Mannlicher Schönauer Rifle.
8x60Magnum is .323 ( = 8x60 S and 8x60RS )
8x60J is .318
