Holland and Holland Howdah
      #56672 - 09/05/06 06:57 AM

I finally got a big bore H&H. It is just a little short.

Believe it is a .577. a short snider round fits, a full does not. Chamber cast next on agenda. Then build a nice case.

These show up for me just fine. However I didn't realize the site had banner advertisers till the other day when I was at work and checked in on the site. They don't show up on my home computer.

Ross,

A most beautiful gun! Do you plan to hunt with it? Good hunting!

I am very pleased with it and can't wait to shoot it. With my schedule, the only thing I get to hunt is paper targets, but I plan to make one target a Tiger, so at least the gun will feel at home. I hope to do a chamber cast this weekend to see what .577 it is chambered for.

The web references were incorrect, with the wrong slashes used. Don't how anyone could say they could see the images here as it was impossible.

Now fixed.

Nice howdah!

(oops worked out Internet Explorer uses could see it and Firefox users could not. Have changed the slashes in the web references and now everyone should be able to see it.)

I could see the pics the whole time. However as I said I don't have any of the banners show up here on my home computer.

In reply to:

Bill, you have me very confused then. Well it should be able to be seen by everyone now.

(Maybe different browsers could see it differently. Will have a play with some references to test that out. -------> Yes, Internet Explorer users could see it using the old references with the wrong slashs while Firefox users (like me) could not. Learn someting every day.)

John: I don't understand the technicalities either, but reckon I could see the images from Day 1 also.

Interesting hardware item indeed, very nice!

Marraki, yes worked out IE could see it while foxfire could not.

How much would a Howdah like that recoil I wonder?

Very nice piece.

Not sure about the slashes, but will watch it for FOXFIRE users.

No, Douglas, I used it to make a 577/440 Martini derringer.

So, I am one double up on you (short, but still a double). When are we going to see a nice South African double?

I had a chance to buy a Howda Pistol once. It too was a 577 "short". As much as I love doubles I sure wish I had done it.

It would be fun to hunt pigs with one.

Terrific Howdah. I have a yen for one of those too. Your's is beautiful!

I think somone could make a nice living if they made them to look like the authentic older ones.

Even if all I did with it was shoot on my property at paper targets it would be the absolute balls!

I bet a modern caliber, even something like a 45 LC, would be terrific... although the 577 is REALLY sweet.

Beautiful purchase... I wish the best of luck to you and hope you can get the cast and gets some rounds loaded up and let us know how she shoots!
