Prvi Partizan
      #55029 - 17/04/06 02:13 PM

Well I thought I would post this here. I took out my new to me Mauser in 9.3x62 and tried ammo from three different companies: RWS 293 gr ($100), Norma 285 gr ($50) and Prvi Partizan 285 gr ($25). Guess which one grouped the best?

The Prvi Partizan is made in Serbia and now I am trying to find who stocks it/imports it into Canada. I picked up two boxes at a gun show about 3 weeks ago.

I will post pictures of the rifle within the week. It was made in 1928/29.

Adam,

It's strange but some people (my very good friend Johan included) absolutely love the Prvi Partizans while others find them very difficult to use. I have a Mauser 8x57 JS and I once shot just one round from a box that a friend in WIsconsin had and the bolt jammed shut. I had to pound on it with the side of the table off which I was shooting to open it and extract the case. Haven't shot any more since.

And yes, I'll join my friend here in asking for pictures of the rifle and the target.

Cheers, my friend!

Graf & Sons sells the heck out of it...and at great prices. Use your search engine and stock up! They sell the Previ 9,3X62 for $15.99/box shipped.

I use the Previ 285 gr bullets in my Lajot o/u and in my Husqvarna with excellent results. I like the fact that they are a bit softer and kinder on the bore of my older 9,3X74R DR. Check out their price for 9,3X62 brass. I am shooting sub-MOA groups with their brass and Previ bullets in the Husqvarna.

Graf & Sons' pricing INCLUDES SHIPPING with a small handling charge per order. Oh Oh...you are in Canada...

I've bought the stuff from Grafs in 9.3X62, 30-06, and 8mm and it all has performed very well in my Mausers. I have to shave the tips of the 9.3's to get them to feed in my old Husqvarna but it hasn't affected performance at all for hunting.

I could not believe the price for this ammo - and it works great in my old Husqvarna. It seem to be very accurate for me but I have no feedback on hunting performance - yet.

I have only had experience of Partizan in .308 and .243.
I found it to be very hot loaded ammo, sometimes causing extraction difficulties. In both my rifles, the ammo was pleasingly accurate but on game, the bullets left a lot to be desired. They broke up very easily on deer ( Roe ) and caused a great deal of surface damage. On 3 occasions I had the animals run into thick plantations and had to follow up.
In fairness they were all found dead after a search, but I never had this happen with the Hornady RN bullets that I normally use or the Federal Premium factory ammo I occasionally use. Following similar reports of bullet performance from colleagues, we relegated the Partizan to range practice for which it is excellent, well priced ammunition. I personally would not use it on game again.
