Begging a thousand pardons for cross-posting here and on the Africa forum, but the devil made me do it.
I just learned that there will be a documentary on lion conservation tonight (Sunday) on the program Nature on PBS at 8 PM. Featuring (among many others) your faithful corrrespondent LGF
I watched this documentary, and enjoyed it! The name of it is "THE VANISHING LION"!
It is a suprizingly ballanced piece, with the conclusion that what will save the lion is makeing it valuable to the indiginous people. The largest loss of lions is the poisoning, and killing of catale killers, by the Masai. Even the rabid preservationists, had to ad mit that the forgine exchange generated by hunting, and visiters to wildlife parks is the salvation of the lion. With proper quotas, and the money being distributed among the people dirrectly effected by the lion, the lion is place in the valued asset catagory, with the locals, the lion will be there as long as he is of value. A very good piece!
