Gun auction in Australia - anyone going??
      #55551 - 24/04/06 12:20 AM

Any of you guys going to this auction on May 6 & 7:

http://www.antiquearms.com.au/index.htm

It looks like there are a lot of nice rifles and doubles there.

Has anyone ever dealt with these guys? Are they reputable?

Thanks

OWD

Yes, I have dealt with them... bought my Martini Enfield .303 from them.

They are indeed a reputable group, the auctions are well run, and the condition reports accurate.. quite a lot of international bidding.

The only negative is that it can be very difficult to inspect more than the outside of most guns. They are usually stored in racks around the auction room, linked with plastic covered wire rope through the trigger guard with the bolts/actions cable tied shut. Vic Govt regulations.

They don't seem to employ many assistants during the inspection period, and you need to track down and collar one to unlock the wire rope, cut the cable tie and then inspect the firearm.

The doubles, however, were easy to inspect... saw a few people assembling them, wriggling barrels etc for the usual checks.

The last one I went to had quite a few doubles, incl a very nice cased Holland and Holland that was passed in as not meeting its reserve. Yet reasonable condition .310 Martini Cadets and fairly ordinary rook rifles were going for ridiculous prices!

I will probably attend this one too... being able to look at lots of British doubles is part of my education while I save up

Cheers

TM

A number of BPE doubles listed on the catalogue and a few others. Might be nice to have a look at them.
