Javan Rusa
      #5520 - 08/12/03 11:47 PM

I was thumbing through the lastest SCI newpaper this weekend in between butchering whitetail deer. I saw numerous advertisements for Javan Rusa which really made me drool. What a beautiful animal. I sure hope to have an opportunity to hunt them someday.

I am curious though about the large antlers. Are these outfitters boosting these deer on steroids or are they always that big?

Try New Caledonia for the mecca of large antlered Javan Rusa.

AH Javan Rusa do carry heads that could be considered steroid fed but the wild NC rusa dont need steroids as they simply grow big antlers naturally, it seems strange that such a small deer can grow the size that they do attain...current world record is over 40 main beams...but even the wild rusa in Oz will grow up to nearly that.

Thanks for the info, guys. I believe all the ad photos I have been seeing were for NC rusa.

Gryph

Follow the photo source and you will see where the photo comes from.

Thanks for one of your excellent photos, I was hoping you might pop one in.
