Grizzly

"In the States, we hear that OZ buffs are pussy buffs."

Tell that to all the people who have ended up in hospital or
the graveyard over the last 5 years.

Perception is greater than reality, believe me, they can have
a real go at you when they want or you f*@# up.

I think they African Buff "dangerous status although very true
is played up to attract even more people. Aussies just tend not
to do that.

Get over here and go for a hunt.

WATCH YOUR MOUTH BOY when talking about our beer.
The yanks in Vietnam used to trade 10 cartons of Bud or schlitz ?? for one carton of Fosters.
We used to drink that yank beer till it was running out our ears and still not get pissed.
Yank beer is lollie water.

ALAN-I was one of those yanks in Viet Nam who traded our crappy Schlitz for Fosters. I know I came out ahead in the deal.

Where were you stationed? I was flying out of Pleiku for 8 months, then out of Phu Cat over on the coast for 4 more.

How is American beer like making love in a canoe? It's f%@&ing close to water! I have tried Fosters here and do not think much of it, but it is probably made here under license so the recipe may have been buggered in the "translation". I guess I'll have to get down there to see for myself.

Asam

Fosters is not any better down under.

Aussie beer is good but Fosters is like Bud. It is made so no one dislikes it but no one likes it either.

Steve

Trouble is you poms drink it at body temperature just like the p*%% it is.

I am really shamed people think Australian beer is measured by Fosters. When you visit try beers like Coopers from Adelaide and James Boag from Tasmania among others. I wish Lion Nathan would make a decent premium beer with their 'Hahn' label and then I would really be set.

Grizzly

A Top End safari after Water Buffalo has much of the feeling of an African safari. If hunting in Arnhemland you are hunting in a true wilderness area, Arnhemland (mostly) having always been Aboriginal lands and very undeveloped.

Water buffalo do not have the reputation of cape buffalo but do kill people each year in the bush. The marketing 'hype' has never been built up, in fact most Aussies would argue a .308 is fine for them. Yes it will kill them just the same as a .308 would kill a cape buffalo if it was legal. it probably is better to use a .375 or more however as they are big animals.

Combined with some other hunting such s pigs or ferals it makes a good trip.

A water buffalo hunt of around 5 to 7 days in Arnhemland is around US$6500 to US$8000. Sometimes a little more and can be cheaper, eg if hunting station country with lesser numbers of buffalo and perhaps lesser sized trophies. Sometimes a deal comes along but also make sure you know what the actual deal is buying you. So on average a little cheaper than a cape buffalo short hunt.

I would wager that an Anchor Steam could hold its own with any of the offerings from Europe and Australia.

Fosters used to come in 26 oz cans back in the good old days and was at least 3 times stronger than that yank beer.
I was educated on the art of drinking Jack Daniels out of 1/5 bottles if my memory serves me correctly, from the US PX.
It always amused me when the boys from the States drank our Coke, they stuck a couple of spoons of sugar in it to make it taste like the stuff from state side.

Mike 416,I spent most of my time in the south around Vung Tau and the Delta from 66-68. and also spent some time in Tripler ENT ward getting patched up.
Hell there was a nurse there by the name of Lt Barbara Long, what a honey.Mmmmm

Griz, only one way to find out about our buff, scrub bulls, feral pigs, barramundi and mud crabs and that is to come see for yourself.
The one thing we dont have here is any unfriendly's lurking around in the bush armed with panga's.

I personally havent had a fosters for years but usually have a cold Hahn's in the fridge at all times.

"Kick ass, take names" is a lousy piss poor attitude to have when travelling abroad and nobody outside of a lowlife bar has any respect for that sort of conduct, and it is a complete embarrassment to those of us born and raised in Texas.

Forget the snakes, they have huge lizards.

I've lived there myself and am from Texas where everyone is a total pansy about snakes...snakes are no big deal.

Beer...Aussie beer is like most other beers on earth. If you like European beer, then buy James Boag when in Oz, or possibly Kronenberg.

Richard.

Bulldog,

Check the original post in this thread.

"He is truly the epitome of an ass kicker and a name taker" and "My younger sibling has kicked ass around the world."

That is what I referred to in my statement.

Richard.

I have good hunting here in Africa - but I'd simply LOVE to do an Aussie hunt! - maybe when time and money allows.

The stupid thing is that many years ago my uncle owned a sheep farm in (I think) Queensland and I had the opportunity to go hunt it anytime I wanted...... and never did...... DOH!!!!

Alan,

I occasionally have to go to Amarillo myself, have some elderly relatives there. Unfortunately it looks as though the next trip may be to attend a funeral since they aren't doing too well.

Also I forgot what I was apologizing for...

Check your private messages, I've sent you contact information for Mr. Widner.

Richard

John,

Please delete this thread. It apparently has upset a lot of people. While that was never my intention, I want to keep this a first class site.

Thanks

Grizzly,

I apologize, I obviously read it out of context.

Years ago I read something in Guns & Ammo written by Ross Seyfried testing either 8 bore or 4 bore rifles on water buffalo in either Western Australia or Northern Territory, and I think he said they didn't always work quickly unless using an explosive projectile.
