Well, it has a new home now. I hope the new owner thinks as much of it as I do.

Yeah, I saw it on Westley Richards' website and then noticed it was sold. It just may be the finest one double rifle to come to market in recent years, in my opinion. I wish I were the purchaser.

Sure would hate to part with something like that. Wow!

And frankly, I noticed it as soon as you posted the thread, having already seen it on WR. I've been literally speechless about that rifle untill tonight. Just didn't know what the hell to say. Truly I'm envious.

I'd love to see more photos and have more info about that prize. When was it made? Who for? I feel nosey asking.

Hello fellow double rifle collectors. I was doing some research on the purdey 369 cartridge and came across this thread. I am the new owner of the 369 purdey listed here, what a small world!

The gun is being re-cased as the case I received was built for a Purdey 400 and was not original to that gun. Besides that I was very pleased with it, and it shoots very well.

Droplock101

You are very welcome to NitroExpress.com and it is amazing that little rifle left and is back again!

It is nice to know your rifle was one of the Maharajah's doubles and is now yours.

Do you intend to hunt with it at all, and if so, what sort of game? North America, Africa? Or is it part of a collection?

More photos are very welcome. A very nice piece.

Droplock101,

The Mysore Maharajas have a beautiful palace in Bangalore which is a replica of the Buckingham Palace and a very popular tourist attraction if you visit there. SOme years ago they sold some of their palace grounds to a developer and upset a lot of people who wanted the whole property preserved intact.

Congratulations on a most exquisite rifle. DO post pictures of game that you take with it.

Thank you nitroX. I do intend to hunt with it in Africa next spring, the calibre is very close to .375H&H Magnum and will do well against most anything there.

Thank you mehulkamdar.

Yes, I did some research when the letter from Purdey's arrived, and was very taken with Mysore Palace.

research shows; The Maharajah was known for his markmanship and was always called upon by his subjects when a rogue elephant or man eating tiger would show unannounced. This King was a very intersting fellow, and there are many paintings in the great halls of Mysore Palace depicting the great hunts of him in India and Africa among others.

Droplock101,

The Dussehra festival is celebrated in style by the Wadeyars at Mysore every year and until a few years ago they would trap elephants using the Khedda system. I was fortunate to witness one of the last kheddas as a boy in the early 1970s before the royal family ran out of money and stopped the exercise. That said, if you visit Mysore during Dussehra it is a wonderful place and though the celebrations lose a bit of their past grandeur wuth every successive year, theya re indeed worth attending because they are a vision of how life was in the past.

Cheers and good hunting!

It was a nice gun but I let it go for some other stuff. Came across a set of Boss & Co. doubles in .375 & .500 and just had to have them...
