So what is the best Mauser action to use for a 416 Rigby?

Mauser currently make a .416Rigby rifle or if you want a custom rifle go with Granite Mountain Arms for the action

Arizona,

Precthl made both the action and the complete rifle Alf pictured when Mauser turned 100 years in 1998. He made 100 in 416 Rigby, and 100 in 375H&H. I have one in 375H&H.

His website is: Pretchtl (Golmatic)

Another German option is Karl-Heinz Ritterbusch who makes both actions and complete rifles.

Sigarms now owns the Mauser name, and makes Mausers using Prechtls actions as far as I know: Sigarms Mausers.

Jeff,
if you order a action I may order one also (Left Hand .416Rigby) and we may get a discount! Let me know if GMA will do this. Having them in your home town is a bonus! Thanks

Stevel

I think Brian Harre in NZ also makes Mauser 98 actions, but not sure how much they are modified actions (?)

Like Erik said, Sigarms offers the Mauser 98 Magnum in 416 Rigby. http://www.mauserwaffen.de/index.php?id=56&lang=en

They are very well made, great handling and very accurate.

New England Custom will also install a detachable scope mount where they CNC slots into the bridge - the scope sits on top of the bridge rather on rings.

Bulldog,

If I recall correctly, Prechtls actions start around Euro 2000,- for a standard length, and around Euro 3000,- for a Magnum length. His complete rifles with a wood stock are somewhere around Euro 8000,- and up last I checked. These prices might have gone up a bit though. He did once mention that he could make a standard length rifle with a synthetic stock for around Euro 5000,- a while ago.

Ritterbursch gave me a quote not long ago of Euro 10.000 for a complete rifle in 7x64 Brenneke including ERA swing mounts machined into the square bridges.

Another potential option that might come in the near future is a M98 from Waffenfabrik Hein.

Hopefully, these US produced actions will be priced at a more reasonable level than the ones being made by Prechtl and Ritterbusch in Germany today. Not to mention Hartmann&Weiss, which make Ritterbusch and Prechtls actions and rifles look cheap!

Erik

Yet another new M98 maker based in the US: Satterlee Arms.

I am in Mesa AZ and I went to Granite Mt. 6 months ago - amazing little facility. The actions are the finest I ever laid eyes on. The cost for an action if I remembr right is $3000 and $4500 for a Barreled action. The barrels are turned with an intregal rearsight rib. It is worth seeing!!!
