Rifle Importation for S. Africa Hunt
      #54046 - 04/04/06 05:29 AM

To all:

I have two friends going to South Africa this month to hunt plains game. They have requested some sort of a statement of ownership to accompany their rifles for entry to South Africa. This statement evidently must be signed by a licensed dealer in firearms (which I am).

Can anyone give me the particulars of what is required to be said on this statement? I can "wing" it, but I would feel much more comfortable knowing the specifics.

Thanks,
Curl

I just did a Google search and may have answered my own question. Here's a link to the site I found:

Importing guns for hunt in South Africa

Nonetheless, if anybody has any helpful advice it will be greatly appreciated.

What in the world would we use as an official export document from our home country...and not the US Customs form...???

Brit clients get caught with this one and we get them to visit their local copshop to get a piece of headed paper stating they have permission or are allowed to take the relevant firearms out of the UK for the purposes of sport hunting.

US hunters usually just supply a 4457.

The SAPS require some kind of written permission that the hunter is allowed to take the firearm out of their country of residence - most overseas countries including the UK take the view that the owner doesn't need Governmental permission to do this.....so to some extent, it's just a matter of humouring the SAPS with something that looks right.

They will however, need to supply the other paperwork such as letters of motivation, PH & Outfitter licence numbers & phone numbers etc...... but their outfitter should be telling them exactly what they need to do. If he isn't then they might have problems.
