Uganda: Buffaloes Invade Adjumani District
The Monitor (Kampala)

March 13, 2006
James Eriku & Charles Akena
Gulu

TWO buffaloes yesterday invaded Ofua sub county, Adjumani district, and held residents indoors for over an hour.

According to reports from residents, the buffaloes strayed out of east Madi Game Reserve in Zoka.

The animals attacked Mr Elizeyo Obiga after he tried to spear them. He is admitted at Adjumani Hospital.

The animals later went on rampage into a UPDF detach, forcing some soldiers to flee.

The animals were later shot and killed by the army and local defence forces in the area. The incharge of east Madi Game Reserve, Mr Walter Odokorwot, said the buffaloes were moving back to Sudan via River Ayago.

Walter warned residents of Adropi Sub-county of a stray lion, which escaped from the reserve. He said preparations were under way to relocate the lion to Para in Murchison National Park in Masindi.

He advised residents to report cases of stray wild animals to the Uganda wild life authority.
