Very Neat. Didn't you say you used a Nitro for Black load? What is it? What kind of bullets?

I must be looking at a different rifle than you are! The rifle I'm looking at, in your post, is not a boxlock, but a back action hammer rifle! I don't see a third fastener, needed for a Greener cross bolt, either.
Was the so-called "Sellous grip" installed at the factory, when the rifle was built, or is it a repair, done at the factory later, the latter is my guess? How does it shoot?

Check this out, and scroll down to "BOX LOCK", then to Greener cross bolt!

I love those external hammers rifles. I saw one Purdey in the SCI Convention simply amazing, but very far of my pocket.

Anyone got any pic of a external hammers double Holland & Holland????

Dugaboy1, Thank you for the corrections. It was late at night and I was looking at my Crawford SXS 450 when I was typing the description. You are absolutly correct-there is no Cross Bolt and it is a Back-Action Hammer Gun. The Selous Grip was installed at the request of the original owner. I am selling the rifle to the Gun Historic Library at Bass Pro Headquarters in Springfield Missouri. They want a gun with an original Selous Grip. I am working on getting more Rodda History. As you all know Rodda is no longer in business. To make a long History Story short, Rodda went out of business because of the pressure from the British government. It all started because Rodda had set up a store in India and was selling 450 caliber rifles to the locals. The British had passed laws restricting these sales. He died in New York a broke man. I have found his Grandniece in New York. She is trying to get as many of the Rodda records as possible. I will let you all know when and if she succeeds. Best Regards, Wes.

Guagedrifles, you might contact ALF, who posts on Accurate reloading! He seems to have a very large library of information on any rifle maker, and he may can help in your search!

Try the African hunting forum! He has a post there on the first page! Something like "UPSIDE DOWN WORLD"

Click on his profile, and his Email address is there!

I did contact Alf and am waiting to hear back from him.

If any are interested here is a brief history of Rodda from some of my notes. I am also waiting to see if Susan Boothroyd of Glasgow will come up with any additional information.

RB Rodda was pretty much a sales company, after WWII started. Previous to that, Rodda earned many appointments as Gunmaker for many of the Indian Nawabs, Nizams, Maharajas and assorted Princelings.

Rodda’s Historical Events and Locations were:

Maker of Percussion Belt Pistols, 1840

RB Rodda, 36 Piccadilly, London (originally known as Brown & Rodda) (1846 - 1847)
RB Rodda & Co., Stafford Street, Birmingham (1900 - 1910)
RB Rodda & Co., 24 Whittal Street, Birmingham, (1910 - 1935)
RB Rodda & Co., Vesey Street, Birmingham (1935 - 1940)
RB Rodda & Co., 17a Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham (1940 - 1955), (Exporter 1945 - 1955)
RB Rodda & Co., 2 Wellesley Pl., Dalhousie Square South, Calcutta, India
RB Rodda & Co., 7 & 8 Dalhousie Square, Calcutta, India

According to his living relative (Moira Mark, New York) R.B Rodda is "Richard Burrows Rodda".
Moira also notes that Mr. RB Rodda died in 1957 in Springfield, Mass.

This is very brief, but gives some idea of the volume of rifles made by Rodda. There is no record of him making any shotguns. He did sell many shotguns, as well as thousands of other types of sporting gear, through his thick catalogs and his storefronts. Many manufacturers put the Rodda name on their goods.

Best Regards,
Wes.
