So? Who got the 450 #2???

From the GunsAmerica site? It was a souped up Pedersoli 45-70. It should be a sweet beater.

Colorado, I was wondering about the regulation after the change too. I hoped that somone from this forum bought it so we could find out how it shot.
Not all of us can build such a nice looking DR as you've done so far with that 50-90.
When the weather clears up some I'm going to try out my Astar 45-70 DR and see how the regulation is with various loads.

Well, my buddy bought a 45-70 Pedersali and had it reamed out to 45-110 and lucked out. He was able to develope loads for it that kept things with in reason. i.e. 2" @50 yds.

Colorado, I just talked to my friend inquiring what his loads were. He is at work and will let me know. He did say that the 400+ (not sure ) regulated very well and grouped around 2-1/2" at 100 yds each barre, did not cross. He is still working up the 500 gr. load, that one is not quite there yet, that one is 2" at 50 yds I believe. I have shot this one and it is very stout indeed.
The gun was originaly regulated for I believe he said 87 yds, but don't quote me on that.

Try to get him to join up and give us a write up about it.
I'm tempted to do this with my 45-70 also.

Look for a PM

As I said earlier, Hmmm. That meant I was in the running, today I committed to sending the cash.

I realize that if its regulation is shite, then I'm shite out of luck. No need to berate me!:) I had hoped to get a reply about Zebra Firearms from somebody on the board but, alas, no luck. I'm the guinea pig, I guess.

Anyway, if all goes according to plan I'll get the thing in about 10 weeks. (Customs, exporting, paperwork, blah, blah, blah.) I'm going to use Questar (www.questar.ca).

So, I'll be giving everybody an evaluation on both Zebra and this Pedersoli when I can. Likely about July, when I get time.

Tchuss

Only joking! I appreciate help of any variety!

I'm a farmer so I'm used to risky business. (Not sure my wife likes that but that's another story.) But I do understand the regulation problem; I won't be too proud to ask for help. Or to tell everybody what a disaster the thing is (hopefully I won't have to) and have a good laugh.

It's supposed to be regulated for Kynoch so I'll get some of that to start with. About 20 dollars CND a shot.

Forgot to add: I did send Mackool's an email to see if they would look it over but I didn't get a reply. I do think that would be a more prudent course of action to take.

Of course, I rarely take my own advice...

Try to find out who the prior owner was and pick his brain about loads and how it shot.

For whatever it's worth, from what I've seen and heard --if it's chambered in 450NE#2 and regulated with ANYTHING-- chances are it'll shoot with a fair range of bullet types and wieghts.

You'll see though.

In reply to:

From what I understand, their jigged then brazed in place. High volume type of manufacturing. They are good for the load regulated to which is factory 45-70, 300 grain HP.

Colorado
Hmmmm, that's interesting.
Isn't the general opinion that you cannot mass produce double rifles by using jig regulating where the guns are built to a pre detemined barrel convergence with no true regulation being done, and expect them to group correctly?

So these jig regulated rifles not only shoot the 45-70 load but you can rechamber them to 450 No2 and they will still shoot that totally different load as well?

Kinda bit like a magic trick eh?
Perpetual Regulation without ever actually being regulated !!!

4Seventy-

I don't know what this rifle is set up for, I don't know what went into it, I don't know who worked on it.

All I wrote is what I wrote.
Wether or not *that gun* is regulated for anything is another issue entirely.

If you take enough stock in the minute portion of what I wrote in such a fashion as to think my words imply that *the rifle in question* has been or hasn't been assembled to shoot accurately within an acceptable aggregate group to consider it regulated -- well shit then man, I have some subdivision real estate options south of New Orleans you should take a look at.

I talked further with my buddy who has the Pedersali that he opened up to 45-110. He told me that that the guy who did his smith work had done four others and all of them shot fine after rechambering. I guess that would speak well of there regulating methods wouldn't you say. The smith told him before doing the job that it was a crap shoot and if it didn't work than you were screwed because as stated earlier they are hot brazed. He gave me his load recipe's, but I forgot to bring them in today. He also said that the price of the new ones now are up to 4 grand. That would seem a little cost prohibitive to me for what your going to end up with don't you think. When he bought his back 2-3 years ago, they were well under $2,000.
