Which book does Tony say that statement ?

Is it one of his newer books or his Elephant hunting
books of the past ?

i saw that too, but my merkel just keeps going off and I keep shoving in new shells. I don't think there is any doubt that ejectors make reloading faster, but at great expense, and questionable value. (oops i'm going catch it again) If you get into practice extractors just aren't that much slower

Write Sanchez a note and tell him that if he wants to buy you a double with ejectors, that you'll be happy to take it.

I give up. If ejectors are that d**n important I'll just have to have them installed on both my muzzle loading double rifles.

I have one piece with ejectors now and they do not impress me.

Sanchez commented this in a recent Guns&Ammo article. He said that a Double without autoejectors was just a "piece of iron".

Exactly how much faster is such a double?

Re "Sanchez commented this in a recent Guns&Ammo article. He said that a Double
without autoejectors was just a "piece of iron".

He has extensive exprience but each to there own.

I have both and am marginally quicker with Ejectors
but that is only because I practised extensively with
my Extractor doubles.

For a newer shooter Ejectors will be faster.

Re buying guns with or wothout Ejectors,
some great guns have been passed up by others that
I have bought solely because they didn't have Ejectors
and from comments they made I know a few who
wished they had bought them when they had the chance.

Is there any device available to manually assist with the removal of the two spent cartridges from a double without autoextractors?

It shouldn't be too hard to have some device to help pull the hulls out then move the hand forward with the live cartridges. But this statement comes from someone with the manual dexterity of a sloth with 5 thumbs.

Any thoughts?

I don't agree that non ejector doubles are just a piece of iron.
However I do agree that ejector double rifles are superior in certain situations.
I'm talking about hunting situations, not shooting range, gun room, or forum situations.

The few doubles that I currently own are all regularly taken hunting and all have ejectors.

Many of those who don't like ejectors are not using a gun handling technique suitable for the ejector system IMO.
The fact that many have difficulty closing the gun and are losing fired cases suggests this.

I would never pass up a double simply because it did not have ejectors but if I was having a new double built you can bet that ejectors would be high on the must have list.

How much faster depends on the type of hunting situation and how well the shooter can work an ejector gun.

Mickey once designed a device to help cure flinching with big bore rifles.
Cannot remember exactly how it worked but I seem to remember that it used a large fishook located in very close proximity to the shooters nutsack!
Perhaps you could adapt this system to your "cartridge removal device" somehow?

An extractor will pop the shells up about 3/8 to 1/2 inch and the shelss can be grabbed with the fingers. You should also be able to tip the rifle and have them fall out with gravity.

It is not a problem.

It was a device to cure people from pulling the second trigger by accident and doubling the rifle.

It was a Halibut Hook and no one who has used my patented device ever accidently doubled a rifle again.

It also did wonders for concentration regarding barrel rise and keeping the rifle on target.
