When it comes to hunting Cape Buffalo, there seems to be two major schools of thought when it comes to rifle/bullet selection. One advocates a fast moving bullet to induce as much shock as possible, while the other suggests a heavy, slow moving bullet which they say provides better penetration. Which one do you feel is right?

Since it is rare for a buff to drop to the shot (unless brained or spined) I doubt there is much shock to be achieved from either a fast or slow bullet.
You can kill most anything with most anything on any given day, but you separate the men from the boys when you get up over 5000 ft-lbs and 500 grs. at typical velocities.

I personally prefer clients to use a slow heavy, slow/deep expanding bullet. But it's their hunt and as they're paying the bills they can use whatever they're most comfortable with.

Slow and penetrating is my motto.
If a heavy round nosed bullet such as a 300 gr .375, a 400 gr .400, and a 500 gr .450 at about 2,100 to 2,400 fps.
Didn't know buff, elephant, rhino reacted much to shock unless someone can post how their animals reacted differently (but no spine or brain shots please).

The question is whether you know anyone who shares your motto.

I like heavy for caliber, both control expansion soft, and solid, at between 2100, and 2500 fps Tha is the MOTTO I live by! There is absolutely no need for speed above 2500 fps on large game in Africa, and long as the bullet is quality, and placed properly!
