With all due respect to Hawk industries, I think these bullets are just a bad in a double as a mono metal. The pressure is way up there.

No, they're completely different. The Hawk can be a bit sticky in some rifles because they're dead soft and seal the bore completely. You really have to start low with them and work up. If the bore diameter is a bit tight to begin with, pressures can become excessive fast. Did you slug the bores in the .450 before you started? I worked up with them in one of my doubles yesterday due to a new lot of powder. No pressure issues and extremely accurate. Out of three consecutive pairs, the three rights went into .5" and two of the lefts went into the same hole at 50 yards.

Barrel damage from mono-metal bullets in double rifles has nothing to do with pressure.

bonanza
I have used the Hawk 300 gr .025 jkt on deer and pigs, and the 400gr .035 jkt on a pig in my 450/400 3 1/4".
I have used the 285gr Hawk .035jkt in my Chapuis 9,3x74R double on deer, pigs, baboon, and impala.
I really like the Hawk bullets, they have given me almost 100% drop to the shot kills on ALL the game I have shot with them. I had one pig run about 25 feet.

This March the 285 gr .035jkt Hawk is my bullet of choice in my 9,3 for Leopard. That is how much I respect this bullet.
As a plus the Hawk people are great to deal with.

400 Nitro is correct in his assement.

Ok, fair enough. I guess my Hollis just does not like them.

I have had pressure spikes with Hawk bullets too. It seems to be related to their sticky nature and the bulge that they have at the base.

I have had great results with Hawk bullets in a .32-40 and a .348. The 32-40 was well on its way to becomming a wall hanger but the folks Hawk spent some time with me on the phone, it now shoots better then I. Call them and let them help you with your concerns Zephyr

There was a fellow called Mitch who was the moderator and in fact was the person who got Saeed to start a Big Bore forums. Mitch's idea was to have a Big Forum that was separate to the African Forum.

Mitch had a 577 T Rex and got pressure spikes with the combination of Hawk bullets and Reloader powder.

My knowledge is limited in this area but I was wondering how you know you are getting "pressure spikes"? Do you have some type of pressure testing system? Just curious as I'm developing loads for a .450/.400 3-1/4" now with Hawk bullets and haven't seen any pressure signs yet.

I've used Hawk bullets consistently in a .40-82WCF and they have performed flawlessly. Great accuracy and knockdown punch.
