Remiongton 45-70 at SHOT Show in Las Vegas

Today looked one of these over. Not bad, very plain but not crude. Real walnut, decent finish, good handling. Rear sight has tiny "U", inadequate, should be replaced or recut, rib is dovetailed for scope mounts, one Rem. representative said rings will come with it. $699 retail, $499 wholesale. Specs are 23.5" barrels, lop 14.25", comb drop 1.5", heel drop 2.25", wt. 7.5 lbs. Slot in underrib gives access to toothed wheel which spreads or squeezes barrels, about a foot back from muzzles. When will it be available, I asked, the reply was "soon". The '06 will come next. If the '06 has the usual European tiny spring tooth extractors, no good, but this .45-70 looks fine and frankly I was very impressed with it.

I gave up these and made my own 50-90 Sharps for about the same amount.

Do you have any pics of this rifle? I dont know if it will be wort it or not but I am going to buy one when they come out just to see. I have a SXS 12 Ga and although it is not the nicest thing in the world it shoots good and I like it well enough. If the rifle is like the shotgun I will like it the same. I think it would make a good black bear/boar brush gun.

I'll have the 50-90 shooting by the end of the month. I'm gearing up for reloading it now, should be a great snap shooting bear/boar/elk gun. Next project is going to be an in-line double 50 cal muzzleloader with a 1-24 twist shooting sabots and power belts utilizing the 209 breech ignition system I'm designing. Should be sweet!
