Hello everyone,
I tried this cocktail - not my recipe but a very nice one by whoever created it - and it seemed to my palate to go very well with Wisconsin style cheese bratwurst. Do try it and let me know what you think.
Take 1 1/2 pegs of Tequila, 3/4 peg of Curacao and 1 part of grape juice, mix them well with ice in a shaker and strain through the top after taking the cap off. Pour into a cocktail glass and enjoy the drink with cheese brats with pepper sprinkled on them.
Cheers and do let me know what you think of the combination!

Ann,
My pleasure. I enjoyed it and thought I should post the recipe here. My wife makes very nice Indian style spicy kebabs which go well with it too.
Whoever visits Chicago is welcome to enjoy these with us.
Cheers!

I want to try that one, except I have no Tequila, no Curacao and no grape juice. No cheese brats either. A trip to the shops is planned.
PS What is a cheese brat?

Mehul,
There is a slight possibility of a trip to Chi Town for me next month. Slight, but if it happens I promise we will hook up.

John,
You are missing out if you've never had a brat, plain or cheese! It's a type of sausage, sometimes made with beer. I think they originated somewhere in Europe but they are a popular American food for BBQ's, picnics, sporting events.
The seasonings used in them make their unique flavor. Mmmmmm!

Oh BRATWURST !!!!
I did not pick up on the abbreviation .
I lived on them when travelling in Germany having lunches from train stations and lunch stands on the side of streets. That and sliced hot curry-wursts. (they were all cheap!)

I love my cheese brats done on the grill, so that the skin gets nice and crispy. I'll toast the bun, then soak it with a real ass kickin' hot sauce, smear it with a good stone ground mustard, then add the brat, grab a brew, and enjoy a short stay in heaven.

Ann,
I'll look forward to your visit whenever you come. We'll look forward to inviting you for lunch or dinner depending on when you are free. My wife is just getting interested in hunting and it would be a great experience for her to meet a lady who hunts elephant. She is very young and you may find an instant fan.
Best wishes,

John,
Sorry, it must be the Wisconsin influence, hence the abbreviation. The only place in the world that has as many pubs as it has churches - no wonder I am still confused six months after leaving the place.
More seriously, Wisconsin gave me a taste for fine American food, something that I am grateful for because, outside the US, MacDonalds and Pizza Hut seem to exemplify American food. The cheese brats that we bought from IGA grocery stores are among the best I have ever eaten.
Cheers!

I'll do that. By the way, if you haven't done so already, this coming summer, a lot of local churches and communities have bazaars or festivals where they feature ethnic dishes from the community. You owe it to yourself to visit a Polish Church Bazaar, and also an Italian Bazaar. You won't regret it. I promise.
My favorite Polish dishes are Halupkis (ground beef, rice, and seasoning wrapped in cabbage leaves and then cooked in tomato sauce), Pierogis (my favorite variety is made from mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese, inside a type of dumpling dough, then cooked in boiling water, and smothered with chopped onions and melted butter). I also enjoy Halushki, which is nothing more than cooked potatoes, cabbage, and noodles prepared in a chicken stock. I like mine with lots of black pepper sprinkled on top. Then, of course, there's good old fashioned Kielbasi, which is a type of smoked sausage served either hot or cold. I like mine cold, cut into small pieces, and topped with a good strong creamy horshradish dressing, or a good spicey mustard.

Mike,
We buy Pieroges and have them at home from time to time. I worked in Russia for a while a long time ago and enjoy East European food a lot. Living in a part of Chicago that has a number of East European groceries also gives me access to some really nice food fgrom that part of the world - from jams and marmalade from Serbia to Maraska Cherry wine. Kielbasa sausage is one of my favourites though I buy the store variety - if you know of any particular beand I should try, please let me know.
My wife and I are both big fans of Italian food and there are the Marzotti family owned restaurants in Chicago where we eat very often. We haven't visited a church sale, though, and should do this sometime.
Thank you very much for the suggestions - I am a glutton and proud of it. Now, you have given me something very nice to work on.
Cheers!

John,
Like all wives, my wife would prefer learning to shoot and hunt from other ladies than from me. We have a difference in age in addition to being hsband and wife, more problems than anyone could imagine.
A picture of her learning to shoot with a little chipmunk rifle.
She is an excellent cook (being the daughter of a very popular chef and restaurateur in South India) and, if she starts hunting, there would be even more good food to enjoy. All friends from these forums are welcome when they visit Chicago.
Cheers!

Congradulations on getting your wife in shooting and hunting Mehul!
Mike: I'm getting hungry listening to you talk about Eastern European food! I used to date this Russian violinists who used to cook wonderful Russian food. I picked up a few things like borscht, dumplings, blini etc.

Mehul,
I will be happy to help her out as well. The fact that she is shooting should cause you GREAT celebration. Remind her how much you admire her for doing so often.
She will probably learn to be a better shot than you but hey, you'll definitly enjoy more time in the field doing so together and it will enrich your entire life.
I would suggest some sporting clays as there is almost no kick with light game loads and it is bloody fun to shoot at those silly flying targets. Think about a good bow too.

I don't buy our Kielbasa from the supermarket. We're fortunate enought to have a Polish Family nearby, who have their own butcher shop and smokehouse, so we buy it from them. Our favorite is the course ground, with lots of garlic.

Chasseur,
Thanks - I cannot express how happy I am about my wife taking shooting up.
Ann,
If she becomes a better shot than I am, it would make me the proudest husband around. I introduced her to www.womenhunters.org recently and she has been corresponding with some ladies there. I was happy to learn that she told them about her problems talking to colleagues of hers about hunting - in cities like Chicago, it is a big no-no. Several of her colleagues disapproved of this new interest and she has been arguing with them about it. I keep giving her information about PETA shenanigans and she gives the information to the anti hunters working with her. She'll tell you more about it when you meet her.
Mike,
That reminds me of India. It is customary there to buy a live animal/bird and get it slaughtered. I guess your church visit suggestion would be a fantastic way of finding someone who might offer home made sausage in Chicago.
Thanks everyone, and good hunting!

Yesterday, one of our local grocery stores had Johnsville Brats on sale... 99 cents for a one pound package. I brought home 5 packages.

Mehul, I finally got around to trying your recipe last saturday. I enjoyed it very much. I modified it a little bit though. I only used 1 peg of tequila. I generally don't care for tequila (it's a long, long story), but this drink, I enjoyed. Thanks

Mehul, Your wife looks just like my wife behind a gun. The most difficult part in teaching a women to shoot is to get their heads lined up. I have given up, lots of people at the hunting club has got more patience than me.
Mike, You looks like a succer falling for good food, my weak point too. And some good spicey sauces are always welcome.

I really enjoy good food. Especially good, spicey food. I should get my fill next week, as my wife and I are going down to a small island off the coast of Belize, in Central America. A lot of the food there is influenced by Mexican, Belizian, and Carribean culture. Can't wait.
