Back from Central Africa Rep, happy to be alive
      #48128 - 27/01/06 03:28 AM

I spent 15 days in the CAR, hunting 13 days, and 10 days night and day.
I ran out of luck and fell ill, the denguelike virus the Chikungunya, on the 5th day.
My report soon.

JB,

I'm very happy that you were able to bag one of the elusive " Panthera Spotus Canidae ".

I am told they are fearless and ferocious animals that often prey on visiting hunters in the Central African Republic. They are usually seen together with female " Panthera Campus ", commonly known as; " Ladies Of The Night ".

Both can be deadly.

Well done for coming out of it alive!

I look forward to full details and more pictures.

Right: this ladies of the night are depicted in

Thanks Charles,

I got an Arbovirus, the dengue.
I have been pricked by a bloodsucker, but which one?

Not this one, it is mostly bad for ..........earholes. My ears weren't swollen.

Hopefully by now the aches in your joints are fading away to a bad memory, as previously stated I'm very sad for you that you became ill on your hunting trip. I am still looking forward to your report.

Jean Bernard,

By the photo it looks like you really 'cleaned up' on your hunt. Looks like a great bongo based on the skull! Did you bow hunt all of the game?

Well done either with rifle or bow! I to can't wait to read your report.

Welcome home and get well ASAP.

Looks like a great bag! Two Leopards and a very nice Bongo in 13 days is quite a feat. Congrats on the great hunt. Look forward to the report.

Not to mention the couple of Duikers and Buffalo! I'm impressed! Is that a set of Bushbuck horns in front of your left leg?

JB

Congratulations on your hunt. Commiserations on your illness but I am glad you are recovering.

I always like your photos after the hunt, the trophies all lined up and especially the whicker armchairs. Somehow very French.

I always appreciate your excellent sense of humour.

Now I think you did not need to "spot up" the dog. I see two leopard skins behind the two of you gentlemen.

Looking forward to further photographs and of course the hunting stories.

Great looking hunt (and I like the doggie, too) Jean Bernard, and my deepest sympathy on a truly miserable and painful disease. My wife the microbiologist thinks you got off light. It could have been ebola!

Thanks

You all are too kind.
I am recovering more slowly than I wish. Yes Sarge, when bleeding the first day, I feared Marburg or Ebola lethal fevers.I even ordered the PH to shoot and burn me should I bleed on and loose consciousness.

I worked all day long to produce a decent report. English is not my mother language. I am doing my best to make it the most vivid possible.

Lovely Bongo! What a lovely hide bongos have.

And a graphic photo too above it. A horrible story I assume is coming with that photo.

Hi alls,

Sorry to keep You waiting. I fear I have been dishonnest.

In french we would call it "sensationalisme".

.
In fact, the situation is so bad that most of the people is starving, mostly the state employees. I have been asked to shoot the most coveted game, the baboon, to feed state employees who arrived in camp to check us. In fact they come to be fed. And the smoked baboon is the epitome of gastronomy. I shot not less than 4 baboons to please them. Unlike us, the prefered the meat is the smoked one. Most of the time, we the whites, are eating fried meat or kebabs.
Yes we do eat baboon....warthog, buff, eland, duiker, bushpig, bushbuck, snake, and LEOPARD.
We couldn't have a try at human meat.
In the CAR, at any time, every thing may go amiss, people mainly. Anyhow casual cannibalism is fairly rare. Cannibalism mostly occur when the lunatics from Zaire (former Belgian Congo or Democratic Popular Republic of Congo, or Lunacyland or Rapeland or Whiteseatersland or Lumumbaland) are invading the country to give a hand to a wannabe president in the CAR. Hats off, the thugs from Sudan and Chad aren't this cannibals.
My report is still on the loom.
I have got the Chikungunya virus, the one which is crippling Reunion Island and Mauritius. Bouts after bouts, during more than one month I am suffering from arthritis, which makes my moral low.
