I have been looking for a buffalo hunt next year. I have all the money saved, the 401k is full, taxes paid up. I have been looking for a non RSA/Zim hunt.( This is not a jab at RSA or Zim just wish to go someplace new)
I don't have the bucks to do a 21 day hunt...just looking for 10 day hunt with 4 days for travel.
Botswana may cost more than I wish to spend. Moz looks good... have talked to a few people who say it is pretty rough.
Tanz looks good (if you get a honest outfitter).
What has really shocked me is they have a few farms in Zambia that they raise them like cattle.
I was dissappointed to see a pet cape buffalo around the camp fire. Then they show pics of this thing following them like a pet dog.
I think I will pass on a semi-tame pet buffalo from Zambia. This strikes me as sickening as the canned Lion hunts from the RSA.
What do you think..... is a farm raised cape buffalo as bad as a canned lion?

urdubob, Do yourself a favor, and look into a hunt in the Caprivi Strip region of Namibia with Vaughan Fulton. Good Buffalos, reasonable prices, great camps, and one hell of a PH.

I've never seen the attractiveness of hunting DG including cape buffalo on these smallish fenced ranches. Leopard might be an exception as few fences will keep them in or out.
Plus you never know how "wild" the buffalo actually are.

I was looking for a buff hunt over the last few months and decided on TZ.
The trophy fees are quite reasonable... roughly 1500 per buff as you get 2 on a 10 day license. You also get quite a few PG animals on license. They have very good trophies coming out of there every year. I booked with Safari Trackers in Lokisale in November. Their average for last year was 40", including those shot for bait and on 7 day safaris. Also I have never been to East Africa and have always wanted to. I know what you mean about finding an honest outfitter. I think if you do your homework and go with an established outfitter the odds of things going bad are pretty slim. I find the Hunting Report to be an invaluable resource.
If you are interested in any more info PM me. Also a member on this board books for them. I think his screen name is markhyoung. He could give you any info you want. Website is;

You'll love the area at Lokisale. There are some fantastic lesser kudu and fringe eared oryx wandering around. I know that they are not on the 10 day license, but it is a real experience seeing them. Be sure to take a Coke's while there. The opportunity for this will lessen in the very near future, so I hear. The buffalo there are emormous, so wait for a good one.

Yes Mark does book for Adam Clements. Some of the safaris at Lokisale this year looked very successful.
