Baikal double
      #47284 - 21/01/06 07:07 PM

I heard through the grape vine today that the Baikal/Remington Spartan deal fell through but Baikal was offering the gun under their name in 45-70 and 30-06 (sxs). Has anyone else heard anything about this? I guess after the SHOT show, there will be some answers. The Baikal distributor here in Canada supposedly has some and they will be in the $900 range.

It sure took Remington long enough to admit what we already knew. That could be good news though. I've been waiting on these since they were announced. Hopefully they will make it down here 'cause that's probably the only way I'll ever be able to afford a double. Besides, it just might be possible to rebarrel the 30-06 to 450/400 or maybe 450#2. Both will be well under the pressure of the '06. If the 45/70 has the correct twist it might could be rechambered if it will withstand the pressure. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

The Baikal doubles have been available in Australia for at least the last 12 months. Pretty bloody ugly - but cheap. This dealer has them listed in 223 Rem, 308 Win and 30-06 for $895 Aussie dollars (approx $650 US). I have never seen a reference to a 45-70 Baikal over here. I dont know that converting a 30 cal Baikal to a 450 would be worth the effort unless you did all the work yourself as a long term project.

Fergus:
The Spartan was to be the Baikal SIDE x SIDE.

There are some BIG pictures of it on this post, I hope BSAJoe has learned to downsize since then!

Oh... I dont recall reading that before, but I do get a bit of CRS at times. Does Baikal currently make anything in sxs config other than shotguns?
