Real world prices on classic 9.3X62's
      #46714 - 16/01/06 07:18 AM

I have been searching for some time for a classic older 9.3X62. It does not have to be a Mauser Orbendorf, it could be any one of the between the war's quality makers. Simpson, ect, ect. Problem has been that many of these pieces are priced what collector/museum gr. Orbendorf originals go for. Then these people get in a huff when you point out (gently) that they are not selling a "original" Mauser Orbendorf mod.A despite the prices they see on the internet {they say}(that's what I see Mausers go for on the internet!!) Usualy I try to keep in contact with the seller in hopes they come into reason or we can meet half way. But usualy they end up "not" selling the gun and pulling it off the market. Or sell for for a, can't reveal the price number. Looking forward to your thoughts and solutions due to the vast experiance of so many members on this site.. Thx.

Mike:
Find a nice Mauser action and make your own. That way you can choose the classic features you like, and make it fit like a glove. No longer a slave to the ignorance of optimistic (greedy!) sellers!

If you are looking for good quality rifle for not much money look for a Husqvarna based on the large ring 98 Mauser. You should be able to pick up one for about $400 with good bore. Mine has a fixed rear sight and is pretty darn accurate given open sights only. Look on Guns America or Gunbroker.
I think there is a good one on Gunbroker right now.

Good luck.

I picked up a Husqvarna 9.3x62 on a 98 action for $400.

The stock was junk but the action and barrel is top notch.

I picked it up at a small gun shop here in town.

Keep your eyes open!!

Mike
I have a custom mauser by "Rex something", it's home and I can't remember, cal.9.3x62. I bought it years ago thinking I would refinish the wood and send the metal to NECG and have mounts made for it. It is heavaly engraved, I think they call it a French finish, kinda looks like nickle and was or is flame colored but finish is preety much gone, needs to be reblued and cleaned up. It has a solid rib and half round barrel, with double set triggers. The stock has been cut at one time and then I belive has had a wood extension put back on. It also has claw bases, but no mounts, NECG can provide those as well. It is a very solid gun good, a good shooter and project gun. I paid 875.00 for it and have seen them go as high as 3500. in better shape. The bore looks good and functions flawless. If your interested and the price is in your range then perhaps we can talk. It's a fine calibre as you probably know. I could send pictures and work with you if you like.

No idea about where classic 9.3x62s are available at reasonable prices but I saw the CZ 550s in this caliber on sale at Dick's in Chicago and they wanted $ 599 for them.

Good hunting!

8X56,
Yes, Please do send me some photo's the more the better, also more in depth information/description would be very helpful..

I already own a CZ550 carbine, that rifle is what sold me on this caliber. I have toyed with the idea of building this gun as described earlier.. But I have this idiotic dream of hunting Africa again, but this time with a pair of classic's,, 9.3X62 as my light heavy, and 404 Jeff as my heavy.. Don't ask why, I can't figure it out either... Of course, if really pressed. We all would be at a loss of words to describe why African hunting is seared into our souls..

Same here...I just bought the same gun at an on line auction for about the same price shipped. It has a junk stock with a repair, but it also has a nice period detachable side mount with 1" rings. I happen to have a decent factory stock for the rifle sitting in my "will I ever need this sometime?" pile of good things I siphoned off during years of trading guns.

I was going to have a good Husqvarna of the same type and period in 30-06 re-bored to 9,3X62 at a cost of around $300.00+ with shipping. Now I can have both. All I need now is a set trigger.

Mike,

When I get back home tonight I will take some photos and send them to you. As I said before I bought the gun a few years ago with the intention of making it a project gun, but I have been working in Asia until the last few months and never really got around to it.

The gun actually has a Mannlicher full length stock with carved cheek piece. The stock has been cut down at some time and then someone added a wooden spacer with a rubber recoil pad to bring the overall length back, I can't say what the length is until I measure it if you like.

The gun is a custom job by "Rex Wolff", I have seen a few of these around over the years and they do bring a high price in good condition. The metal is heavily engraved, the barrel is half octagon/half round with a full length rib. It has a two leaf rear folding site and a thin blade front. The triggers are double set and the set is crisp and very light. I do recall that the adjustment screw for the set is frozen and broken off, but that a simple job to replace if you wanted to, but probably you would not need to adjust in my experience anyway.

Lets see what else, oh the barrel lug screw does not seem to be original to the gun, but tightens down OK. The finish has a lot of patina and I intended to have the metal refinished. The finish is what I have been told is called a French finish, kind of looks like nickel and you can see some flame coloring in places. The wood has been abused for sure, a lot of handling marks and scars, but no cracks that I can recall.

I have shot this gun about 8-10 times and it is a sweet shooter as I would expect from a early Mauser and it groups, points and handles like a dream, weighing in around 7 pounds I believe. The action functions flawlessly and smooth. This gun just needs some TLC and a good scrubbing to bring her beauty back, she is truly a diamond in the rough. You could use this gun as is or make her a project gun.

Mike there is no pressure to sell this gun, I just thought if you are interested in really having a quality rifle rather than some wanta be piece at a bargain basement price than I could help you out. As I said I have $875.00 in this gun and would ask only that I get that out of it. Oh yes I do have dies and some old bullets that came with it as well. The dies came with a surface rust, but I have used them and they seem to work OK. I would let those go with the gun as I don't have another 9.3x62.

Anyhow, I will send pictures tonight and if your still interested get back with me. I'm getting real close to retirement and have several dozen guns that I haven't picked up in years and plan to weed some of them out some time down the road. I don't need the money per say, but figured someone like yourself could enjoy this piece, if not then I will probable send it out to NECG to have the metal work done and refinish the stock myself.

Gary

Hey got some 2-9/16" rifled slugs to try in my Drilling, but have had no time to shoot them yet. I'll let you know how they go.

..."to try in MY drilling"...rub it in, why don't you... I'm happy that the old gal got to the right home. Let me know where the right barrel shoots the slugs. I think you might consider using only the right tube, as I believe the left is choked very tight. Many of these drillings were regulated in the right tube for original Brenneke slugs.

Regards,
L2S

When I contacted Kebco about my tracking number, I was told that his hottest seller right now is older 9,3X62s. He can't find enough for a fraction of the requests he is now getting. If you find a good one for a fair price, buy it! It seems that the 9,3X62 is catching on here in the US. Maybe USRA should wait to close for a while and make the Mdl 70 in 9,3...

I just ordered a period Kahles Helia 4X33 steel tube for my Husqvarna 9,3 on its way from Kebco. He sells a lot of Husqvarna SXS shotguns and some cape guns.

Hey come on, guys, can't you post the pictures here for us?

What good is something beautiful if you don't show it off a little? If you had Marilyn Monroe on your arm, you wouldn't want her wearing a burkha...

Mehul,

Now that you mention it, I can't think of anything I would want Marilyn Monroe to wear!

Cheers,
Curl

I'd rather that you post some of MM. She had something that none since have possessed.

As soon as the rifle and scope meet up, I'll post some pix. The scope is on its way from Germany.
