What does a 2 piece blank like this for a DR cost?

Ok, I've done research and asked questions and looked at and decided on a couple of upscale guns to buy, both from Searcy...but...that stock blank has to be way the heck out of my league in price.

Also I think Searcy charges $400 to $500 or so for a stock blank for his Deluxe Bolt Action rifles (info courtesy of Mike378, who asked him via email of the price difference if you send Butch your own stock blank).

500grains:

It was about $1000.00 for the wood upgrade.

Richard

One point that probably needs to be made is that although Sercy said the price of his bolt action would drop about $400US if you supplied your own blank that would not necessarily mean his black is $400.

It is possible that his blank is better and would prefer to use what he has and he maybe offering a discount that is small as a disincentive to people supplying his own.

If it is a case that his blank is $400 one would also need to consider the way he buys and his $400 blank might be as good as what you or I could get for $800.

Mike

Thanks 475Guy, I think we made a very good choice too!
sounds like you have a pretty tough choice also! But in the end, no matter what choice you make....you still have a DR.
Good luck!

I had not wished to get involved in this due to business ties, but after the plug for Denli, who has nice wood by the way, I must point out that the wood involved came from www.oldworldwalnut.com. You might want to check out the offerings and the prices. All wood is real ur-walnut from some of the oldest forests on the earth. Not from Turkey, tho they do produce some gorgeous wood, BUT....and Bill Dowtin is a real gunmaker-knows his guns and his wood. Ask Mr. Atkinson, another member of this board.

All:

Just wanted to give you an update on our .577 being built by Searcy.

Butch emailed this picture this morning. As you can see, it had not yet been checkered when the picture was taken.

Opinions?

Clark,

Wood looks great, really great, you don't see that type of figuring often. And the grain through the wrist looks tight. Smoking!!!

As another of Burch's wood suppliers, I can say that is one fine piece of wood even if that one did not come from me.

Here is one I supplied for my 470/12 Ga pair from Butch:

Do Searcy's normally come wide enough in 470 to fit twelve Gauge Barrels or is yours a special ordr?

I can only guess that they come wide enough. I guess this because mine is only 9 1/2 pounds and if it were normally less, mine would weigh more. Super neat gun and nicely balanced.

Clark
Heck, I've seen fire wood and boat oars that looked better than that.

Sorry could not resist.
That is a great looking stock. Looking foward to seeing you and meeting your dad at DSC. When he gets that rifle we will have to do a hunt.

Thanks, all. I spoke with my dad last night and we both agree that the stock exceeded our expectations! Now we just have to wait some more until the howitzer arrives.

Tony, can't wait to see you and everyone else at DSC! Can't wait to bring the old man and the rifle to the next DRSS hunt!

As always, I'll keep you updated with any new developments.

I'm pretty sure Butch's actions do come wide enough to fit 12 guage barrels without modifications. I asked him if a set could be made for a DR after it had been in possesion for a while and he said it would be no problem.

At the risk of starting a war, I don't think that is a good thing.

UPDATE:

The .577 will be making an appearance at both SCI and DSC this year. The rifle will be in the white, but Butch asked if he could take it with him to show it off - he says it's very impressive.

So if you are heading to DSC or SCI and stop by Butch's booth, check out our .577!!!!
