Well, it is in my 1993 edition of "Cartridges of the World", where it is noted that it was concived by Ross Seyfried. Apparently, Ross had a argurment with a elephant and he found his 450 NE inadequate! No shoots were fired but Ross felt he needed something with more oomph!

Which gunmaker helped develop the cartridge is not stated however Asquare did market both the cartridge and rifles chambered for it! There are no specs in "Cartridges" but ballistics noted are:
Bullet Powder MV ME
750sp IMR4350/135 2040 6930 fpe
" " 140 2170 7845 "
" " 140 2195 8035 "
" " 160 2490 10,305 "
" RL-15/130 2235 8320 "
" " 2525 10,625 "
650sp IMR4350/160 2400 8330 "
650lead H4198/73 1660 3980 "

All loads per Ross Seyfried and used at your own risk.

The .577 T Rex was designed by Art Alphin of the A-Square Company. You can find out everything about it plus a lot of other great info in the A-Square reloading manual entitled "Any Shot You Want" which is available from www.amazon.com or www.alibris.com

Gibbs505,

I thought that was the 585 Nyati. I get confused rather easily though.

I remember it the way Dan (500grains) says it. Then again my memory ain't so good anymore either it would seem.

They are both the same bullet. .585 is the grove diameter and .577 the land diameter! There may be some minor differences in the brass. I do not know as there were no specs on the brass given. I rember reading that Ross went to ASquare to get the rifle made!

However I am not sure!

FYI, Seyfried's article introducing the .585 Nyati is in the December 1991 edition of G&A, commencing at page 56.

Have you looked at 500Grains's article? In it, you can find additional information and a comparison photo. For more pictures, Midwayusa has a close up picture of the brass. Also, there is a seller on Gunbroker right now selling a dummy round with a photo comparing the .577 Tyrannosaur to a 30-06. Hope this helps.

Gibbs505, the .585 Nyati was developed my Mr. Ross Seyfried. The 577 Tyrannosaur was developed by Mr. Art Alphin of A-Square. They are indeed different cartridges which start from different cases entirely. But they use the same bullet. Kind of like 30-06 versus 300 win mag.
