Photos of the COTTON GAOTS that were discussed on one of the hunting stories - probably to do with Africa.

Those cotton gaitors as you call them are readily available here in Aussie. We use them to keep the grass seeds out of our sox and boots.. Al

Alan,
That's why I wear them.
If you notice I am actually hunting - the photos were taken in the NT about 3 years ago.
The cotton ones are the best thing out and saves alot of time when you get back to camp.

In Darwin you can buy them in Brown, Khaki, or Green, to match the season!!
I have all three.... Certified hunting nut!
BTW, this particular design (waterproofed cotton drill with elastic top) was originally developed in the building industry, to stop mortar falling into brickies' boots. Invaluable hunting accessory in spear-grass country though, as Al points out.

I've used the gaiters from Boyt too, and was very pleased with them. They stayed in place as they should, and kept grass seeds etc out with no problems.

Wow! The world is indeed a funny place! Here in Oz we just grab 'em at the local grocery store on shopping-day, the price works out at US$2.31/pair at the current exchange rate. No wonder they call this the 'Lucky Country'!!

But we only have to get one pair, and you have a different color for each day of the week...

500Nitro,
Both of you were obviously referring to my ugly mud covered legs, being the better looking ones seen on this thread! I'll take it as a compliment!

Are any of these gaiters available in anything above ankle height? IE are any on the market that go up over the calf?

Lots. Do a google search for "Gaiters" and you'll get loads of options.
Here are some from my country, made by Norrona (www.norrona.no), available in both Gore-Tex, Cordura, and Cotton/Polyester:
I use these types of gaiters all the time at home when hunting in wet/cold areas. And of course when skiing in the winter.
For Africa though, I prefer the ancle hightype, as they are cooler.

Erik,
Thank you.
The reason I asked about over the calf versions is that in some parts of Texas (like behind my house) at some times during the summer we have a couple of native grasses that will cause a nice chemical burn on anyone wearing a pair of shorts. Unfortunately these grasses usually show up during the hottest part of the year, and a tall pair of those gaiters looks a lot cooler than a pair of jeans.
Thank you,
Richard
