My Whitworth .375 "Stormbringer" awaits

While the storm gods approach

But the boars did not escape

On the Barwon Bend

The drought did break

More photos

Sighting in the first morning. Take some time and relax after the long drive.

Now what is "Orion" sitting on I wonder?

Some Barwon country - but no pigs !

Aah, this is where you find them. Plenty of green tucker, moist and succulent. But danger, and a pig trap too.

A young boar with his last meal, courtesy of "Waidmansheill". From a joint effort of "NitroX" and "Orion", a .375 and a 7mm STW (traitor!). Can you count the bullet holes?

Is the Barwon River the same one in the song about 'Beyond the Barwon Banks'?

Bakes

Don't knock the little ones. They can sneek up to you and take you awares. A 300 gr .375 tends to gut and fillet them too. Ready made bacon.

Actually I wanted to shot one or two with the .22 Magnum for roasting whole but always carried the .375. One day we saw a herd of adults which dumped the young piglets. About 20 to 30 of them in a metre radius. I was very tempted to put a 300 gr right through the miiddle but held off to look for mum or dad.

We were lucky to take as many pigs as we did. The owner was very surprised as due to the severe drought most hunting groups took very few pigs.

Mickey

My guess is it would be the same.

Check out those river banks and sides. The river is very canal like and "swept clean" so I guess in the right times and season a fair amount of water moves along it.

It eventually empties into the Murray.

Another Barwon view. And there are some Woodies floating on the water if you can spot them.

DucofDeath

The rifles are listed in the second thread. Check it out.

BUT they are 2 x .375 H&H Magnums, 1 x .308 Winchester BLR, 1 x Weatherby 7mm STW, 1 x Steyr Mannlicher .22@ Remington, 1 x CZ 22 magnum

Anyone

Have another look at the photo where Orion is sighting in his rifle.

Guess what he is sitting on ?

Nice website Nitro.

He is sitting on what we call out here a Mojave Porta-potty. It's a toilet seat bolted to a milk crate.

You learn early on, not to step inside any square or rectangular imprints in the sand!

Yes 100% correct, a toilet seat on a plastic crate.

Great invention, this one was found underneath one of the buildings and provided a comfortable shooting seat.

Also the long drop loo in this place had a lovely door and very nice walls but had natural air-conditioning in that it had no roof at all. On the stormy night this little invention proved very useful.
